Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual with a passion for partnership working to help deliver 'Climate FORTH: Furthering Our Resilience Through Heritage' as Project Officer Communications.

Climate FORTH is an ambitious project by Inner Forth Futures – a collaboration of 9 organisations who work around the upper Firth of Forth in Scotland. We have committed to working together with advisory organisations, stakeholders and community groups to achieve a shared vision using a landscape scale approach with heritage at its core to engage people in new ways in the Inner Forth’s management.

The Climate FORTH project was developed over 2022-23 to contribute significantly to delivering our vision and will be delivered from August 2023, subject to a successful delivery stage application to National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It will support a move to a greener future and post-pandemic recovery and generate opportunities to share learning, influence adaption and inspire the change needed to transition to a climate resilient landscape in the Inner Forth and beyond. This will be achieved using locally-created, measurable resilience plans with participatory budgets, targeted action to demonstrate ways to repurpose heritage assets, tools and events to promote the principles of 20-minute neighbourhoods, skills development and capacity building, and initiatives to promote local, sustainable tourism. A new Youth Panel will engage a different demographic in decisions about their local places and project activities, including through a dedicated micro-grant scheme. See www.innerforthlandscape.co.uk for more information.

The post will be based at the RSPB Skinflats Reserve near Falkirk. As part of this role you will need to be able to travel around the project area without the use of public transport, for which you will have access to a car. You will have flexibility to work part of the week from home and occasional weekend and evening work.

What's the role about?

In this role you will support project delivery by leading on PR and communications, ensuring we create and use materials and methods that are appropriate for our key audiences, including social media and webpages. You will implement the project's delivery phase stakeholder communications plan and oversee contractors. You will be responsible for some project activities, including events and a VR Project.

The successful candidate will have proven communications and partnership experience. You will be supported by the Climate FORTH Project Manager, Steering Group and Board, but you will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and to implement creative solutions.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Supporting partners to share learning from the project
  • Supporting the Project Manager with elements of grant reporting and claims
  • Leading on communications work across the project
  • Leading on project wide best practise sharing and/or celebration events
  • Supporting partners to deliver a Virtual Reality activity to engage people in land-use change
  • Developing a social media presence and project webpages
  • Implementing the delivery phase stakeholder communications plan

Essential Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Proven time management and organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Experience of successful communications and/or events work
  • Some knowledge of the theory and practice of project management
  • Knowledge of a range of communications tools and how and when to use them
  • Ability to produce clear written communications including report writing
  • Experience of working with project teams, partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to find creative solutions and to work on own initiative
  • Competent IT user (e.g. MS packages, Outlook etc)
  • Experience of contractor management

Desirable Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Ability to work well as part of a cross-functional project team

This is a Fixed-Term Part-Time role for 30 hours per week to 31st October 2026. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

We are looking to conduct interviews for this position on Friday 4th August 2023 and appointment is subject to final confirmation of grant funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund. For further information please contact Kate Fuller, Climate FORTH Project Manager [email protected]

As part of this application process you will be asked to complete an application form including evidence on how you meet the skills, knowledge, and experience listed above.
