Summary

Summary

A hallmark of the Joie de Vivre brand is that every hotel is deeply and uniquely of its place. For the El Capitan Hotel and Mainzer Theater, that place is on Main Street Merced, in California’s Central Valley, and within a 90-minute drive of Yosemite National Park or the San Francisco Bay Area. The locale and the El Capitan properties are further defined by a history shaped by the railroad, ranching, and agriculture, and a connection to Yosemite that dates to a time when Merced was truly the last stop for provisions before the last leg of the journey into the park.

El Capitan Hotel features a restaurant serving classic California dishes inspired by the local bounty and produce of the Central Valley. The offerings extend throughout this historic property to a café bar, garden courtyard and market, where artisan coffees, crafted cocktails, and lighter fare nourish locals and travelers alike.

Restaurant servers are responsible for submitting guest menu selections and presenting these food and beverage preferences. The right person will gain menu knowledge and give recommendations from our compilation of cuisine and drink offerings. A Hyatt restaurant server will engage in casual conversation and create the restaurant experience by their style and service attributes. Other duties include general restaurant preparation and maintaining a sanitary environment.

Responsibilities

  • The Server is responsible for taking customer's food and drink orders serve food and beverages prepare itemized checks and sometimes accept payments.
  • Assists in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance and restaurant housekeeping.
  • Servers accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintains proper cash accountabilities at registers.
  • Ensures that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer-friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer in a positive manner, solid menu and product knowledge, and all other components of the restaurant’s customer service standards in order to take care of a customer’s needs.*
  • Maintains an awareness of food and product information, merchandise promotions, special offers and advertisements.
  • Communicates customer requests to co-workers and/or management in a prompt, efficient manner.
  • Cooperates and interacts with colleagues in a positive, respectful manner and with a team approach, offering to assist as needed in order to ensure customer service.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Reports to work on time and as assigned per the schedule on a regular, consistent basis.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Prior fine dining restaurant experience preferred
  • A warm and outgoing personality with a passion for food and customer service
  • Ability to communicate in English with vendors, guests and staff, to their understanding.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to anticipate and understand guests' needs.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  • Ability to move quickly and safely through workspace.
  • Ability to focus attention on service details.
  • Ability to follow directions thoroughly.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to wipe down table tops, table legs, pick up debris off the floor and wipe down booth seats in all areas of the restaurant
  • Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively to guests and other employees.
  • Transports and carries objects up to 15 pounds up to 15 times a shift.
  • Must be able to stand and exert a well-paced mobility for periods up to four (4) hours in length.
  • Mobility required during the entire shift.
