Special Information


  • This position is eligible for hybrid workwhich allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facilityandat a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
  • Initial appointment is for a period of 3 years, pending a satisfactory performance review after 6 months.

NAU is in pursuit of a dedicated Part-Time Program Manager to bolster the expansive endeavors of the Arizona Tree Stress Explorer and Alert System project, a cutting-edge initiative leveraging satellite imagery to monitor tree health and stress across Arizona in response to environmental threats and climate change.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • 1-2 years of project management experience, AND
  • Bachelors degree in relevant field, AND
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience; OR


Preferred Qualifications


  • Proven track record in grant writing and securing funding for research projects.
  • Prior involvement in outreach or public engagement initiatives linked to scientific or environmental themes.
  • Experience in liaising with educational bodies, specifically the Arizona Board of Regents or similar organizations.
  • Proven experience in program management, preferably in research or environmental projects.
  • A track record in managing interdisciplinary teams, particularly those integrating ecologists, remote sensing specialists, and IT experts.
  • Keen attention to detail, especially regarding budgetary and compliance aspects.
  • Master\'s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Remote Sensing, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Experience in drafting and securing grants from institutions like NSF, NASA, or other similar sponsors.
  • Previous experience in the commercialization of research projects, bringing them from academic settings to market applications.
  • Willingness for occasional travel, including interstate, to engage with potential commercial partners or to attend relevant conferences.
  • Active interest in the broader implications of climate change, and its relation to forest health and management.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities


Knowledge


  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of the assigned work unit.
  • Familiarity with university policies, grant management, and reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles.


Skills


  • Basic understanding or interest in remote sensing technologies and/or tree physiology and/or climate change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an aptitude for building and nurturing internal and external relationships.
  • Negotiation skills, especially in the context of licensing or selling intellectual property.
  • Coordination of activities, evaluating data, and establishing priorities.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience or willingness to learn about the specific environmental challenges unique to the Arizona region or the broader western states.
  • Program development and execution.
  • Acumen in identifying commercial opportunities stemming from research findings.
  • Ability to present and explain technical or complex da a to non-experts.
  • Proficiency in advanced project management software or tools beyond the basics (e.g., Gantt charts, risk management tools).
