Open Sky supports adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who are referred by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Our mission is to provide homes that are safe, nurturing, and address the individual’s personal needs and preferences. Every individual in an Open Sky residential program is encouraged to play an active role in community life, whether it be by volunteering, taking classes, participating in group outings, or joining a health club. Our dedicated staff ensures that individuals have the necessary supports and skills to build a successful and satisfying life in the community and enable the individuals we serve to lead meaningful and active lives.

The Asleep Overnight Counselor works with the Awake Overnight Counselor to support people with developmental disabilities during the overnight and morning hours. The Asleep Overnight counselor may sleep during the overnight hours, but is available in the event of crisis. During the morning hours, the Asleep and Awake Overnight Counselors work together to give medications, assist with personal hygiene, prepare meals, and provide transportation.

USD $19.30/Hr.

Open Sky Community Services, in collaboration with the Department of Corrections (DOC), is excited to announce a first of its kind program in the state of Massachusetts, The After Incarceration Support Program. This program will support the re-entry of returning citizens who have been recently released from the DOC and other individuals who have a history of Justice System Involvement. The Aftercare Incarceration Support Program is community-driven and fosters active community involvement, and engagement. The program offers a safe, judgement free, resource rich environment that breaks down barriers to reintegration while providing access to essential, customized resources, and supports a mission to invest in each individual’s success. The scope of services includes outreach and engagement, food and nutrition assistance, educational and job placement services, housing assistance as well as healthcare and addiction treatment.

The After Incarceration Support Program Recovery Coach uses lived experience with addiction and/or co-occurring mental health disorders to provide peer-level support and understanding to individuals served as they pursue their own personal path to recovery. They develop a relationship that is non-clinical in nature and is focused on overcoming barriers to recovery while linking members to recovery pathways and supports.

Recovery Coaches will work with individuals to develop and implement a Wellness Plan, which consists of personal recovery goals that are identified using a strength-based, self-directed recovery and a wellness planning process. They also work closely with individuals to assist in the development of valued community roles such as group memberships, employment, or volunteer experiences.

Other Key Responsibilities

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent, required.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of substance use disorders and their treatment; utilize engagement, harm reduction, stages of change and treatment, and motivational interviewing to address.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record and reliable, insured transportation, required.
  • Lived experience with justice involvement preferred.
  • Meet members wherever they are in the recovery process, including members who have not yet committed to changing their relationship with substance use.
  • Cultivate mutual, non-directive, supportive relationships that promote empowerment and self-learning while maintaining strong boundaries/ethics. Share personal experiences with the purpose and intent to build trust and collaboration with the member.
  • Support the development and maintenance of key skills
