Behavior Technician Overnight Weekends $21/hr Part time

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) works in our Neurodevelopmental Unit (NDU serving individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The BHT provides clients with direct support by implementing interventions established by the Behavior Analyst to address a child’s developmental and behavioral needs. The BHT works as part of a multidisciplinary team and receives guidance from the Behavior Analyst to complete behavioral assessments and implement behavior modification plans with youth to track progress using data collection and behavior analysis. The BHT works intensively with youth by establishing routine, implementing structure and rules, developing, and strengthening their independent living skills. The BHT promotes the establishment and maintenance of self-regulation and de-escalation strategies, and other behavioral interventions. The BHT is part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team including the Behavior Analyst(s), Speech & Language Pathologist(s), Occupational Therapist(s), Social Worker(s), Psychologists, Psychiatrists, medical providers, educational liaisons, etc.

Overnight Weekend shifts available for part-time position.


The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the duties and responsibilities that will be required of the position, and additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job related tasks not limited to tasks specifically presented in this description.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Behavioral Interventions and Monitoring

  • Collaborate with the Behavior Analyst with regards to behavior treatment plan progress, adjustments, and alternatives
  • Develop positive connection and rapport with youth and families
  • Consistent data collection and summary, track medication changes, and conduct assessments such as stimulus preference, as needed or directed
  • Provide stimuli preparation; Utilize Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Verbal Behavior, and Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Behavior Skills Training (BST), and Task Analyses (TA) strategies within the home
  • Participation in planful and meaningful discharge process
  • Direct assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as personal hygiene, toileting etc.
  • Assist with implementation and tracking progress for domains set by the Behavior Analyst in collaboration with the guardian/caregiver(s) in the treatment plan: cognitive functioning, safety, socialization, play, community integration, vocational skills, distress tolerance skills, language, and communication skills, attending and social referencing, and reduction of interfering/maladaptive behaviors.
  • Implement behavior modification strategies to increase positive behaviors and decrease/extinguish maladaptive behaviors; directly implement skill acquisition plans developed by the Behavior Analyst; identify reinforcers and strategies for the generalization of learned skills beyond ABA sessions.
  • Monitor progress or lack thereof on goals/objectives of behavior treatment plan.
  • Provide coaching/modeling for caregiver(s) based on evidence-based practices and guidance from the ABA analyst
  • Utilize Safety Care de-escalation strategies, including physical restraints, as needed to maintain safety to self and others.

Documentation

  • Completion of qualitative (descriptive) and quantitative data
  • Ongoing data analysis of patterns of improvements/setbacks including- frequency, rate, symptom intensity, and duration
  • Assist in creation of safety/risk plans as needed during times of crisis
  • Timely documentation of records – serious incident reports, restraint documentation, data collection and entry, etc.

Collateral Contact

  • Communicate consistently with collaterals to obtain new clinical information and provide updates about treatment progress.
  • Collaborate with other treatment providers and/or Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) team as needed
  • In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, work as part of system of care and attend regular team meetings to discuss progress.


Other duties

  • Participate in supervision and respond to directives provided by the Program Director and Behavior Analyst
  • Attend weekly individual supervision and clinical team meetings, as well as mandatory on-boarding and assigned trainings.
  • Follow all program policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, and 12 months experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly Autism

OR

  • Associate’s degree in either a human, social, or educational services discipline, or a degree or certification related to behavior management and a minimum of six months of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly Autism
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel within the Metro Boston Region up to 75% of the time
