Summary:



Performs difficult professional and administrative work planning, organizing, directing and promoting athletic, recreational and aquatics programs, park operations, special events and serving as Parks and Recreation Manager; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over division personnel.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates special events and assists with community partnership events
  • Responds to citizen inquiries on activities or need for services and programs;
  • Works closely with all supervisors to maintain quality work; makes periodic field visitation to meet with crews and discuss daily duties; works along with other division managers to facilitate work projects;
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports on recreational activities, facilities and equipment; conducts inspections of recreation facilities for safety;
  • Works closely with department director to ensure effective and efficient line of communication;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Assumes overall control of department during Director's absence;
  • Coordinates and directs all programs, special events and maintenance activities that are under the jurisdiction of sub-divisions including Parks, Recreation Centers, Cemeteries, Athletic Facilities, Aquatics and Recreation Programs;
  • Assisting with planning, organizing and implementing parks, recreation, athletic, aquatics and related programs and services; assisting with budget preparation and implementation and personnel matters; preparing and maintaining records and files.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Supervises the employees within the Parks and Recreation Division.


Education and Experience:


Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in Parks and Recreation or related field and six (6) years’ experience in parks and recreation with four (4) years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of recreation programs, aquatics and sports, special events and community engagement;
  • Ability to prepare technical and financial reports;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community officials, associates, volunteer groups and the general public;
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates;
  • Ability to speak publicly and communicate with the Community regarding program offerings, special events and projects;
  • Thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of parks/ball field maintenance, recreation programming and physical education;

Special Requirements:


  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Florida.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
