ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs selected, direct, age-specific patient assessment under the delegation of a registered nurse with with the physician's order as indicated for protocols, medications and diagnostic tests.
    • Assist with the triage process by completing the patient interview process and assessment, collaboratively with the RN.

  • Vital Signs Monitoring - Collects and reports physiological monitoring data to the RN/provider to identify deviation/trends and prevent complications. Pain assessment per policy

  • Includes the patient/family/significant other(s) in the plan of care whenever possible.

  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect to the RN.

  • Follow policy/procedures for assessment / re-assessment / Protocols / patient flow / pain. Follows clinical practice standards pertinent to care collaboratively with the RN.

  • Performs venipuncture, label samples per policy and in accordance with regulatory standards. Enters lab orders in to Soarian and appropriately document collection in the medical record.
  • Provides selected, direct, age-specific patient care under the delegation of the registered nurse and with the physician's order as indicated for protocols, medications and diagnostic tests.

  • Prepares, gives and evaluates the effectiveness of selective drugs per competencies.

  • Administers oxygen and monitors its effectiveness.

  • Stabilizes, immobilizes and/or protects an injured body part with a supportive appliance, splint inclusive of Robert Jones or traction.

  • Follow process for DME application, pre & post assessment and documentation in medical record. Completes required paperwork for DME billing.

  • Provides care to a patient immediately prior to transfer and verifies required procedures/tests and documentation in the clinical record

  • Provides bleeding control, wound care and appropriate dressings to promote healing and prevent complications.

  • Identifies allergic responses to food, medications, insect bites, contrast material, blood, or other substances and initiates protocol.

  • Collaborates with RN in triage by establishing priorities and initiating treatments.

  • Implements protocols in collaboration with the RN.

  • Assists with emergency delivery of a baby

  • Assists with physical & psychological needs of the woman undergoing a spontaneous abortion

  • Serves as an advocate for patients, family and significant others in regard to decisions affecting the plan of care.

  • Recognizes life-threatening illnesses or injuries and initiates appropriate treatment delegated by the RN and with the provider's order as indicated for protocols, medications and diagnostic tests.
    • Recognizes and facilitates treatment of abnormal cardiac rhythms.

  • Provides for non invasive neurologic monitoring - collects patient data to prevent or minimize neurologic complications.

  • Cares for patient during a seizure and the postictal state.

  • Monitors, treats and emotionally supports a patient who has ingested prescription, other drugs or alcohol beyond the therapeutic range.

  • Provides life-saving measures in life-threatening situations such as trauma care.

  • Works effectively with co-workers, providers and other departments to assist patient progress through the continuum of care under the delegation of the RN and with the provider's order as indicated for protocols, medications and diagnostic tests.
    • Documentation - Records pertinent patient data in a clinical record.

  • Protects the health care rights of a patient, especially a minor, incapacitated, or incompetent patient unable to make decisions
