Location:

Located in the heart of downtown Providence, Rhode Island, the 294-room Graduate Providence is a landmark hotel with an illustrious past. Designed by the celebrated firm Warren and Wetmore, the architects behind New York City’s Grand Central Station, the hotel debuted to widespread acclaim in 1922 and quickly became the tourist and social center of Providence. Today, deeply woven within the city’s fabric and culture and beloved by generations of guests, the Graduate Providence is an authentic Providence tradition. The Graduate Providence is a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
Overview:
The Painter is responsible for ensuring that the rooms, guest spaces and function areas throughout the hotel are maintained in the best possible condition by painting and patching walls and surfaces with the least inconvenience to guests.
Responsibilities:
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain paint, wallpaper, plaster, etc. in all public areas and guestrooms on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag while working.
  • Maintain repair and preventive maintenance records.
  • Must be able to complete all tasks in a timely manner
  • Keep the hotel décor in good condition
  • Comply at all times with Highgate standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Respond to all guest requests, problems, complaints, and/or accidents presented through the front desk, radio/phone calls, work orders, in an attentive, courteous and efficient manner. Follow up to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Clean paint brushes, tools and equipment after use and return to proper storage areas.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Group standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel(s).
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
  • Clean all work areas after completing job, including engineering shop as needed
  • Perform and maintain work to local, state and Federal codes.
  • Other duties as required
  • Repair and/or install drywall/sheetrock using joint compound and taping
  • Meet strict deadlines as required
  • Coordinate with other departments to schedule work projects with minimal impact to guests
  • Perform furniture repair.
  • Complete wallpaper installation and repairs
  • Ensure building, walls and items are painted in a presentable manner.
  • Move furniture, etc. as required
  • Complete all tasks as required by supervisor/manager
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must have experience in interior/exterior painting, drywall, plastering and wallpapering repairs.
  • Basic carpentry, paint mixing and color matching experience.
  • Trade school and/or College course work in related field helpful.
  • At least one year of experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Heavy work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Long hours sometimes required, weekends and holidays required.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
