Position Description

Painters perform skilled painting work to maintain and repair the surfaces of buildings, structures, fixtures, furniture and equipment.

This position is in Carson City and is part of the facilities maintenance group of the State Public Works Division, Buildings & Grounds Section. The incumbent will maintain the interior and exterior finishes and waterproofing of all buildings under Buildings & Grounds administration in northern Nevada. This includes surface prep and the application of primers, paints, stains, varnishes, and caulking to wall & ceiling surfaces, doors, trim, and flashings. Incumbent will utilize scrappers, brushes, rollers, and sprayers for the application of paint products. The incumbent will work from elevated surfaces using ladders and manlifts. The position is under the direct oversight of the Facility Supervisor 3. This position will participate in the on-call rotation. The incumbent must pass a criminal history check which they are required to pay for.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience; OR one year of experience as a Painter I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

• The exam will consist of an application and resume evaluation. It is essential that applications/resumes include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
