Job Description
What You Will Do
As the OSH Group manager for the deployed service group, you will serve as a member of the Occupational Safety and Health (OS&H) Division leadership team. You will manage several teams that are deployed throughout Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) that provide support to the safe operations of the laboratory while implementing the site's industrial hygiene and safety programs. This includes programs such as, chemical management, beryllium hazard control, industrial hygiene exposure assessments, confined space, LOTO, fall protection, injury/illness, personal protective equipment, and respiratory protection.
Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, supporting multiple organizations across LANL with implementation of the OS&H policies and procedures.
You will be responsible for all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to: managing headcount, forecasting and budget(s) associated with group, directing assignments, employee hiring and on-boarding processes, providing continuous performance management and feedback to further develop staff including annual performance discussions, identification of growth opportunities and ensuring proper team recognition and appreciation.

Leadership
Demonstrated leadership and management experience collaborating, managing, interacting, and working effectively with personnel at all levels with emphasis on continual learning and improvement, team-building, prioritizing, managing resources, and meeting organizational objectives and deadlines.
Federal Codes, Standards and Regulations
Demonstrated high-level experience and knowledge in the identification, application and interpretation of federal codes, standards, and regulations in industrial hygiene and safety program areas, including chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment, confined spaces, hoisting/rigging, lasers, and fall protection using a risk-based, cost/benefit approach.
Strategic Planning
Demonstrated ability to develop strategic organizational goals and objectives and align tactical, operational decisions to ensure alignment and realization of overall strategic vision.
Performance Assurance
Demonstrated experience with the development and application of metrics, training and qualifications, and lessons learned to improve performance and reduce risks through modification of work practices and processes.
Communication
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Management Skills
Demonstrated skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees
Training/Certifications:
  • This position may be subject to DOE Order 5480.20A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Education/Experience:
  • Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in industrial hygiene, environmental health or occupational safety or related discipline.

Desired Qualifications:
Certifications
  • Certification in Industrial Hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and/or
  • Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Program, Policy, Procedure Implementation
  • Significant experience implementing industrial hygiene and/or occupational safety programs, policies, and procedures in an R&D, production and construction environment.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing Department of Energy-based requirements, including 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program and Integrated Safety Management (ISM).

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Note to Applicants:
Position may require some travel to other DOE laboratories and out of state to attend training.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.
Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
