Asurion is seeking Data/OR Scientists to join our Data Science team. Team members in this role identify and address complex business problems, design, and drive the creation of new data products and analytical capabilities embedded in multiple business applications.


Data/OR Scientists will gather and analyze large volumes of data, evaluate scenarios to make predictions on future outcomes, and support decision making for the business. Qualified candidates must be comfortable with using advanced statistical data modeling techniques and tools, with an emphasis on mathematical modeling.


In this role you will:


  • Develop prototypes for new data product ideas
  • Interpret problems and provide solutions using appropriate data modeling techniques
  • Communicate findings to product managers and development groups
  • Work closely with product managers to identify and answer important product questions that help improve outcomes
  • Regularly invent new and novel approaches to problems; Take initiative and break down barriers to solve problems; recognized within the team as the source of solutions.
  • Design large scale models using techniques such as Linear/Integer/Mixed Integer programming, Inventory Optimization models, Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Conjoint Analysis, Spatial models, Time-series models, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning algorithms
  • Be responsible for data modeling and analysis, large-scale mathematical programming, meta-heuristic solution design, and developing efficient optimization algorithms to solve Asurion’s supply chain and resource allocation problems.
  • Be responsible for using other analytic techniques like advanced data visualizations and machine learning to improve Asurion’s wireless and retail customers’ experiences.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of product experiments
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Comfortable manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high dimensionality data from multiple sources
  • Use business acumen and analytical skills to identify opportunities, estimate potential, and layout strategy roadmaps to solve complex business problems
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data
  • Deploy ML solutions in production environment


Here’s what you’ll bring to the team:


  • Ability to ask and tackle the most important analytical questions with a view on driving product impact.
  • Able to implement mathematical models using modeling languages (IBM CPLEX, Gurobi) and familiarity with other common advanced analysis tools (SQL, Python, R are preferred).
  • (Optional) Experience with working in Hadoop and/or Spark environment
  • Master's or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar technical field.
  • Able to build mathematical and simulation models to represent a wide range of supply chain, transportation and logistics systems, resource allocation, and other multi-criteria optimization problems.
  • A motivated, focused, and self-starter mentality with effective communication skills, and amazing follow-through
  • Demonstrate familiarity (work experience, Github account) with OOP concepts. Python and Java skills are a big plus.
  • (Optional) Experience in RL and image processing
  • Machine Learning and Deep Learning knowledge.
