Operations Supervisor - Transportation

Under the direction of the Assistant Public Works Division Director/Operations Engineer, the Transportation Operations Supervisor will supervise the functions and activities of the Transportation Operations Department of the Public Works Division. The Operations Supervisor - Transportation is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the functions and activities of the Operations Department Transportation, which includes the transportation management center and its staff. Assists in the delivery of the Highway Preservation Program (HPP -includes pavement crack sealing, seal coating, mill and overlay projects), minor construction contracts, asset inspections, traffic sign/signal management, and NHI bridge safety inspection program and serves as the department head in his/her absence. Serves as the primary contact of the traffic management center and transportation maintenance operations and improvement projects including but not limited to advanced traffic management system and central signal system software. Continually strives to streamline processes and tasks utilizing technology. The duties are as follows: Provide supervision and manages the County\'s highway and bridge maintenance functions. Inspect County roads to ensure safe driving condition and prepares plans for maintenance activities. Assist in long-range maintenance plans and annual budgets. Prepare work schedules, coordinate work of road/transportation maintenance, review road/transportation maintenance work and provide daily direction. Provide recommendations of specifications for new road/transportation equipment and supplies; coordinate and assist in the purchasing process; supervise the work of the transportation maintenance support staff and operate light and heavy equipment used in road maintenance as required. Coordinate training and certifications of staff. Assist in the management of the snow and ice control program and call out process. Coach, mentor, conduct performance appraisals for employees. Disciplines employees as required. This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing under 49 CFR Part 382 and 49 CFR Part 40.
