THE DEPARTMENT

The Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable, equitable, and carbon neutral future.

THE JOB

Have you been looking for an opportunity to contribute your strategic operations skills to the leadership of a small, but growing city department doing important and impactful work? As the Operations Manager, you would be a member of OSE’s leadership team and lead problem solver on and hub for office administration, Human Resources-related work and communication/internal coordination.

In this job you will:

  • Serve as OSE’s liaison to the Mayor’s Office and City Council
  • Serve as OSE’s Public Disclosure Officer
  • Serve as a member of OSE’s leadership team to provide strategic guidance on office systems and staff support that is overlaid with a diversity, equity and inclusion lens
  • Partner with OSE’s program, administrative, and finance teams to nurture an organized, high-performance, inclusive and equitable work culture and environment
  • Lead OSE’s hiring and staff onboarding and serve as OSE’s HR liaison with an understanding of how inclusion impacts workplace culture


Your top priorities will include:

  • With emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion, coordinating and supporting hiring, onboarding, performance evaluation process, and ADA coordination
  • Triaging and responding to questions and requests from the City Council members and their staff as well as attending meetings and tracking the details of legislative schedule for OSE’s legislative submissions deadlines
  • Training and oversight of an Administrative Specialist II’s work
  • Partnering with the Leadership team to develop and track annual work plans and deliverables and share timelines and rationale with staff
  • Leading workgroups of diverse staff for information sharing, developing solutions for emerging issues, education, and identifying, implementing, and continuously improving best practices
  • Developing, deploying, and maintaining office policies and standard operating procedures with an eye toward how internal practices and procedures impact accessibility and equity
  • Coordinating communications with the leadership on Mayoral issues, review and submission of briefing memos
  • Creatively problem-solve issues that arise in real-time with the ability to connect information from various sources to propose new and effective solutions with an equity and inclusion lens

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications

A successful applicant will have a professional career that reflects a commitment to proactively and strategically manage operations and administration for an office, department, or organization. This career orientation should be complemented by demonstrated qualifications in some or most of the following areas:

  • Embedding equity and inclusion into operations and administrative policies and practices
  • Providing strategic operations advice which supports the growth and strengthening of an organization and their ability to achieve goals and build an inclusive culture
  • Power user level proficiency with O365 suite as well as skills in SharePoint, E-Discovery, Nuix
  • Providing team communications on current and emerging issues
  • Experience with the Public Records Act
  • Interacting with elected officials and their staffs
  • Helping leaders and teams successfully navigate hiring diverse staff, employee relations, and annual performance processes

Additional Information

Starting November 1, 2022, City employees will work two days a week in the office.

The salary range for a Strategic Advisor General government position is $47.78 – 71.80. For OSE internal equity, our target range is $60 -$65/hour depending on qualifications.
