General Description
Niagara County Community College is seeking an experienced Online Learning Student Support Specialist in our Online Learning Department. This position will provide guidance and technical support to our students to help prepare them to be successful online learners and comfortable navigating the college Learning Management System. This position reports to the Coordinator of Online Learning.

Typical Work Activities
1. Provide guidance and mentoring support to help students get started and succeed in online education
2. Curate resources to support online students and add them to the LMS, college website, teams, and other college resources.
3. Organize and implement online and face-to-face orientation events for students using the College’s online learning management system and for students taking online, blended, hybrid, and hyflex courses.
4. Help implement solutions for increasing student successful completion of online courses and programs
5. Provide support to students using the College’s Learning Management System and ancillary software in their online courses
6. Create and maintain a social presence for online students, building relationships with them
7. Maintain currency in the area of Online Learning, the Brightspace LMS and other technologies through participation in online webinars, communities, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
8. Support other Online Learning initiatives as assigned by the Coordinator of Online Learning.

Essential Functions
Must be able to navigate relationships with diverse populations. Must be able to operate computers; must be able to relate to a diverse population of students; must be able to relate to faculty, staff, and senior members of the administration; must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; must be able to prepare written reports and presentations using technology; must be able to physically perform the functions of the position; must be able to work flexible schedule.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience creating online materials and support resources for online learners
  • Experience facilitating workshops to support online learners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Experience presenting student workshops with video conferencing software such as Zoom or Teams.
  • Experience with the Brightspace Digital Learning Environment or similar LMS functionality, desktop applications including office suite, video creation including screencasts,
  • Experience supporting online students.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Two or more years’ experience supporting online students in higher education within a community college setting. Experience can include: work experience; Internships; work study; and graduate assistantships.
  • Brightspace DLE Admin experience, trained in UDL and Online Accessibility.
  • Experience with web tools such as Canva, Google Suite, Calendly, Microsoft Teams, WordPress, Yuja Media Server, Bongo Video Assignments, Banner Web SIS, Degree Works, and Early Alert Systems.
  • SUNY Online Student Support Certification or comparable training and certification,
  • Master’s degree in Education, Education Technology, or related field.
  • Experience teaching college level online courses and familiarity with national online course quality standards and compliance.
