Job Description

Introduction:

Grady’s Rehabilitation Therapy staff strives to help improve our patient's ability to function and care for themselves in the most effective way. Patients are referred for service after a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, surgery, cancer, loss of limb, neurological or medically complex condition. At Grady, rehab services include occupational and physical therapy, and speech and language services. We are looking to add a full-time, day shift Occupational Therapist (OT) to our talented Physical Therapy team!!


Position Summary:

The Occupational Therapist practices within the scope of care defined in the Georgia Occupational Therapy Act. Plans, implements, and evaluates effectiveness of OT intervention to assigned inpatients and outpatients, assuring a continuum of care within a hospital, ambulatory clinic, long term care facility, and/ or community based environment. Rotates, at designated intervals, to particular units of service in order to explore, train in, and achieve satisfactory competency in a variety of OT practice areas. Responsible for treatment of all clients appropriately referred to the Occupational Therapy Department at Grady.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Designs a treatment program that will enable the patient to meet the goals previously set.
  • Maintains knowledge of the hospital and the department's infection control, safety, and risk management policies.
  • Contacts physicians and/or makes appropriate referrals to other services.
  • Performs all treatments safely and with minimal risk to the patient, therapist, and other Rehab Therapy personnel.
  • Performs an appropriate evaluation of the patient and records it accurately and concisely on the forms provided.
  • Performs all ADL and exercise techniques and any other treatment that is indicated by accepted community Occupational Therapy standards, and modifies treatment as indicated by patient progress.
  • Supervises OT Fieldwork Level I students after at least one year of clinical experience.
  • Provides care in a manner that is appropriate for the patient's age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient's physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
  • Completes initial evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and charges within the electronic medical records according to hospital and departmental guidelines.
  • Ensures that all written documentation meets the standards set as quality monitors for the department.
  • Sets objective and quantifiable goals for an individual treatment program that are based on problems identified in the evaluation process, the medical history, the prognosis, and the desires and needs of the patient and their family.

Position Requirements:

  • Licensed, or eligible for, Occupational Therapist licensure in the State of Georgia is required (must secure Georgia license by employment start date).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred
  • Master's Degree from an Occupational Therapy program that is accredited by the NBOTC or the American Occupational Therapy Association is required.
