Duties
The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Thomas, Kentucky serving 15 counties in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH. Cincinnati VAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts record keeping related to patient care documentation and quality improvement (QI) data collection as specified by the Supervisor, Occupational Therapy Section and/or iTeleOT Lead with ability to generate reports as requested.
- Provides in-service and clinical training programs in area of specialty as assigned by the Supervisor, Occupational Therapy Section and iTeleOT Lead.
- Conducts comprehensive patient examinations to identify rehabilitation problems and establish treatment goals utilizing latest evidence based Occupational Therapy practice.
- Designs, conducts, and evaluates education experiences for staff members, taking an active role in Journal Club, and seeks educational opportunities to enhance the Occupational Therapy Section, telehealth, RCL, and Medical Center.
- Maintains timely data input utilizing care plans, initial assessments and/or specialty protocols as part of an ongoing process in coordination with other key interdisciplinary staff to provide effective patient care.
- Responsible for the examination and treatment of patients referred for OT services within Occupational Therapy that meet the inclusion criteria for telehealth.
- Develops and provides timely reports to iTeleOT Lead, VISN points of contact, and/or Supervisor, Occupational Therapy Section.
- The OT performs examination, treatment planning and intervention, and documentation as needed for support personnel and any assigned Staff OT.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; but there may be tour hour flexibility based on access and facility

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist (NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy);
- Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field (NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy);
OR
- Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy
Licensure: Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
English Proficiency. [Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).]
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Education, Experience, and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to at the [GS-11 grade level and directly related to the position being filled.]
Demonstrated KSAs. In addition to the [experience above, the candidate] must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
- Ability to conduct OT related in-service and clinical training.
- Skill in procuring, fabricating, adjusting, adapting, and modifying orthoses, splints, and adaptive equipment for activities of daily living (inclusive of durable medical equipment).
- Ability to collaborate and communicate orally and in writing with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to use critical analysis, clinical reasoning, and creativity to independently solve complex problems related to adapting and modifying assessments, treatment plans, activities and procedures to meet the needs of patients.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and techniques consistent with current clinical standards based on OT theory and evidence based practice. Knowledge is inclusive of physical, occupational, cognitive, and psychosocial functional deficits.
The full performance level of this vacancy is 12.
Physical Requirements: The incumbent of the position will meet and maintain physical and drug test program requirements for the position as required. Ability to walk or to get to all clinics daily requires standing, bending and sitting, as well as carrying light objects. Due to the complexity of the work, the multiplicity of the projects at any one time, deadlines, and duties, the job requires a high level of energy, and may be psychologically stressful at times.
Given the probability of patient treatment, the work requires above-average agility and dexterity, heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; use of fingers, both hands required; reaching above shoulder; walking (8 hours); standing (8 hours); both legs required (1 prosthetic); far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted), and mental and emotional stability
