This position will provide nutrition counseling to women, infants and children under the supervision of the Sr. Nutritionist. Duties include anthropometric and hematological data collection, diet assessment, nutrition risk assessment, and food package prescription.

The Nutritionist provides counseling, education documentation, data entry, referrals to other health and social services, and follow-up education. Participates in planning, develop and evaluation of education materials and group education sessions, nutrition in–services, and outreach activities. This position requires the ability to communicate with health care community on issues pertaining to participant needs.
Nutritionist – Full Time
Women, Infants and Children’s - WIC Program
Albany, NY
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate participant scheduling.
  • Track high-risk participants progress in improving their health and document outcomes.
  • Provide and document any participant centered nutrition education (individual/family).
  • Perform anthropometric measurements and perform blood work through Hemocue or the Pronto/Maximo machine. Following all WIC Program regulations. Requiring lifting and bending of infants and children to perform accurate measuring and weighing of participants.
  • Document test date and measurement results.
  • Perform WIC Certifications and follow up visits.
  • Follow Universal Precaution when obtaining Hemoglobin tests.
  • Develop and implement high risk care plans and oversee high risk care to all participants.
  • Provide and document follow up referrals to other agencies.
  • Coordinate nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support that is responsive to the identified needs/interest of each high-risk participant.
  • Provide leadership in planning, conducting, and evaluating Participant Centered Nutrition Education services.
  • Provide leadership and assist in orienting, training and mentoring new local agency staff.
  • Provide telephone assistance to participants.
  • Conduct a complete nutrition assessment and determine program eligibility.
  • Write and document clear accurate and pertaining notes in NY/WIC System
  • Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue and reissue food packages.
  • Provide leadership in developing, conducting, and evaluating nutrition training for local agency staff in nutrition education topics.
  • Provide accurate Logging information daily on bloodwork values.
  • Conduct a complete income assessment to determine program eligibility.
  • Enroll participants.
  • Refer high risk participants to other health related and social services agencies as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in clinical or community nutrition preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and has sensitivity to participant population.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, food and nutrition, or nutrition registration with the American Dietetic Association desired.
  • Demonstrates leadership and decision making capabilities.
Salary Range: $21.78/hr - $34.85/hr
