Job Description
Overview:
The HRSA- ANE Nurse practitioner residency program is a one-year, full time commitment designed to bridge the new Nurse Practitioner from academia to competent and confident clinician with a focus on Clinical experience in outpatient primary care, specialty medical practices and urgent care centers specific to the APN’s population foci. Didactic sessions will supplement the clinical experience with Grand Round presentations, Quality improvement project, journal club, SIM skills lab. Applicants should have a strong desire to work in primary care/ outpatient settings, FQHCs or other settings that serve the uninsured/ underinsured/ underserved populations at the completion of this program. The candidate must be a recent graduate of an accredited NP program, either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The graduate APN will hold national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, be licensed to practice as an APN in NJ and have an NPI number.

The HRSA ANE NP residency is a 1 year, FT position to bridge the new NP from academia to clinician. Clinical, didactic and experiential focus on the Behavioral Health inpatient/outpatient APN role.
Must have a desire to work with the underserved.

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. Your typical schedule will be four 10.5 hour weekday shifts, which can be any day, mainly Monday through Friday. An occasional weekend day may be requested based on the needs of the program/ clinic site. The work schedule will be dependent on the needs of you as a learner, the needs of the program and the preceptor/ clinical sites. There may be some variation in your schedule or additional hours as business needs or program needs are met.

Responsibilities:
  • Able to effectively coordinate and collaborate patient care with interdisciplinary health care providers.
  • Follows standard of care and clinical guidelines by keeping current with nursing literature and publications, seminar attendance, professional organization membership, and networking. Has a basic working knowledge of State and Federal regulation requirements as they relate to APN practice.
  • Documentation: Provides accurate, confidential, systematic and organized documentation of findings, recommendations/plan and education. Medical records are completed in a timely fashion with key elements of documentation. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment outcomes, education, referrals.
  • Accept clinical responsibility for patients in the outpatient setting, working closely with the preceptor and Program Director.
  • Perform the complete assessment, diagnosis, evaluation and follow up of patients, as well as time management, billing and coding, and other business management skills required in the outpatient setting.
  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.
  • Prescribing: Prescribes appropriate medication according to NJ regulation and scope of practice. Prescribes medication within all policy and regulatory guidelines. 45:11-49. Authority of nurse practitioner/clinical nurse specialist to perform tasks, order medications or devices, or make prescriptions. Adheres to standards of joint protocols. Prescribes medications and/or recommends over-the-counter medications as appropriate. Provides medication safely and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Develops a personal plan of development in area of clinical expertise, conferring with Program Director on goals and objectives. Actively seeks out opportunities for self-development.
  • Requirements, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with course leaders, preceptors, residency coordinator and Program Director.
  • Participate in community events, professional organization activities.
  • Strong Clinical and critical thinking skills.
  • Must commit to completing the entire one-year program and attend clinical rotations and didactic session as assigned.
  • Independently participates in continuing education and maintains documentation and all requirements for licensure.
  • Diagnostic Testing/ Screening/Immunization: Initiates laboratory tests, immunizations, and diagnostic test/procedures as appropriate according to regulation and scope of practice. Evaluation and interpretation of lab results and diagnostic studies. Demonstrates competent clinical skills with treatment plans using most effective screening test or procedure.
  • Identify areas to improve health care delivery. Lead an evidenced based Quality improvement project.
  • Complete and submit self-evaluations and preceptor evaluations on time.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Clinical and Regulatory Practice reflects NJ Board of Nursing regulations, ANA Code of Ethics, the current NJ Department of Health

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
  • Recent graduate within 18 months of July 2022.
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Graduate of Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nurse practitioner programs.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English, bilingual preferred
  • Hold a master’s degree or Doctorate in Nursing and be licensed as a nurse practitioner in New Jersey, nationally board certified through the ANCC or ACNP with a specialty in Adult/ Geriatric, Family or Psychiatric-Mental Health with focus on primary care.
Required Certification/Licensing:
1. New Jersey APN active license, New Jersey RN active license
2. Federal DEA certificate eligible and NPI.
3. National board certification as a Family, Adult/ Geriatric or Psychiatric-Mental health NP
