Position Summary
Hawaii Care Choices Nurse Apprenticeship Program supports new graduate nurses as they transition from the classroom to the nursing profession. Our one-year program provides new graduates a supportive framework, blended with opportunities for continued learning experiences to build cognitive and critical thinking skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Nurse Apprenticeship program is a one-year program designed to facilitate the transition of the newly graduated nurse or registered nurse with less than one-year acute care experience into the work setting. Program highlights include (time commitment will vary according to unit specialty)

• Nurse Apprenticeship positions are available
• Continued education throughout the year
• Simulation Lab
• Some specialty areas will have a more detailed orientation with increased time and commitment
• Advanced certification available
• Classroom training
• Continued training and mentoring throughout the first year of employment
• Interaction with preceptors and clinical end of life care nurses
• Hands-on learning

Education & Experience Requirements

• Out-of-state new graduates must have NCLEX scheduled by the time the apprenticeship program begins
• Must have RN license or be licensed-eligible in the state
• Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and have less than one year of acute care nursing experience (please include official transcript of degree)

Hours

• Determined based on rotation of care

Commitment

• Must attend all classes and finish all course work to complete the program
• The nurse apprenticeship program is a two-year commitment (one year training and one year of home care work depending on placement)
