Location: Brownville, NE, US, 68321-0098

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Non-Licensed Nuclear Plant Operator III located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes October 30, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until all positions are filled. This position will report to the Assistant Operations Manager-Training while attending class.

Position Summary

Operate and monitor all electrical and mechanical plant equipment. Ensure that all equipment is operated safely and in a manner that will guarantee continuous operation even if there is an abnormal or emergency situation.


Must be willing and able to work rotating shift schedule. This will include weekends, holidays, and back shifts.


During your employment, you will be assigned to positions within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that require response to the station when an emergency is declared. When you are assigned to one of these positions, a condition of continued employment will be your ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Education, Training and Experience

APPLICANTS CHOSEN FOR INTERVIEWS MUST PASS A POSS (Plant Operator Selection System) TEST AND BE RECOMMENDED FOR NUCLEAR.


High school diploma and completion of the Navy Nuclear Program is preferred.

OR

Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in a technical area.

OR

Previous commercial power plant experience.


This position provides excellent opportunities for advancements. Advancements are based on set criteria as outlined in the Non-Licensed Nuclear Plant Operator (NLNPO) Progression programs.


An employee selected to fill an entry level NLNPO Level III position will be enrolled in the NLNPO Program (Procedure TPP 204).


Licenses and/or Certifications

None.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Monitor and operate equipment assigned to Turbine, Reactor, and Radwaste Buildings.


Perform refueling operations, maintenance activities, and testing during refueling outages.


Tag out equipment for maintenance and restore equipment to operations, perform surveillance testing of systems and equipment, and perform systems valve lineups.


Attend continuous NLNPO requalification training and satisfactorily complete associated exams.


Respond to fires or fire drills as a fire brigade member or fire brigade leader.


Perform duties of the On-Shift Communicator during emergencies and drills.


Maintain qualification as a Fire Brigade and Hazmat Responder.


Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.

Pay Grade - 13 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $38.35 - $47.94


Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
