Job Summary/Basic Function:
Support the planning and execution of New Student Programs events and Services.
Department Overview:
Work with a dynamic and fun team in New Student Programs! In this role, you will work directly with incoming students and their families to support a smooth transition to Boise State. Working with the New Student Programs (NSP) team means supporting the design and implementation of programs and services that connect new students to peers and resources, setting them up for success and persistence to graduation. NSP also delivers education and builds community for the families of new students, understanding that family support is integral to student success. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about many different functions of the university, within Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and beyond. You’ll acquire large-scale event planning skills and have opportunities to give presentations and support student mentorship efforts. The successful finalist must reside in the Treasure Valley. Work location is based on business needs.
Level Scope:
Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.
Essential Functions:
Coordinate orientation and transition programs (first year, transfer/non-traditional student, international and Virtual) (60%)
  • Support the seasonal training of all student staff each spring.
  • Orchestrate student development opportunities that focus on the growth and development of student employability, as determined by the direct supervisor.
  • Orientation (AKA Long Distance Orientation).
  • Support all Housing and Conference Services Coordination.
  • Support the Hiring of all student staff (approx. 30)
  • May support specific collaboration with specific campus partners (ex: Parking and Transportation Services).
  • Support the execution of International Student Orientation (twice per year) and Virtual
  • Provide direct support/supervision to a team of 15-30 peer mentors each fall.
  • Contribute to the visioning and execution of annual orientation programming.
First Year Student Support Initiatives (30%)
  • Support data collection and operation of the peer mentorship program.
  • Supervise the peer mentors who support these programs.
  • Develop the marketing and communication needs of the peer mentorship program, including newsletter curation.
Department Leadership and Support (10%)
  • Serves as a role model to student staff who function as ambassadors of University culture and role models to current students
  • Serve on cross-campus committees as appropriate, with attention to First Year Experience developments
  • Assist other staff members with special events and programs as requested by the supervisor
  • Understand their functional part in creating a student staff that thrives under pressure and demonstrates respect for the responsibility they’ve been given
  • Provide departmental and divisional support by participating in various hiring committees and Student Affairs events and initiatives. Attend professional conferences, workshops, and/or seminars to continue professional growth and development

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest in the career paths facilitated by these entry-level positions
  • Master's Degree
  • Interest in further education at Boise State (College Student Personnel, Student Development, Student Leadership, Counseling, Higher Education/Student Affairs Administration or related field).
