JobSummary: The Network Engineer will be responsible for the architecture, installation, management, operation, upgrade, and support of the local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), metro area networks (MAN), the wireless networks and Internet access for the organization. The network engineer will be responsible for managing the networks that support the end user devices such as laptops and desktops, enterprise servers utilizing the Window/Linux/Unix/AIX Platforms as required to enhance application and database security/performance.This role includes oversight and administrative responsibilities for the day-to-day operation, strategic planning, and operations of the network environment. This position will include both on-premise and public cloud network devices and services. The purpose of the role is to ensure the availability, stability, consistent performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability of our network environment. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent informal leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Participate in 24x7 on call rotations.
- Deploy security patches, updates, and configuration changes.
- Manage consultants to ensure compliance with Barnes & Noble engineering and business standards.
- Create and maintain network documentation.
- Deploy new solutions and configurations to meet business and compliance requirements.
- Monitor and support the retail, distribution center, office and e-commerce networks.
- Discover current technical standards and best practices (R&D).
- Working within a ServiceNow environment is preferred.
- 3+ years’ experience deploying, upgrading, and supporting firewalls and firewall security policies including Checkpoint, Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Meraki.
- 5+ years’ experience in Cisco, Meraki, Juniper, Arista, and HPE/Aruba network hardware and related systems.
- Strong knowledge in routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
- Experience design, deploying and supporting a zero trust architecture is preferred.
- 3+ years’ experience designing, implementing and supporting public cloud, virtual and physical load balancers including associated global DNS and security services.
- 5+ years’ experience supporting and troubleshooting network connectivity and performance including utilizing advanced network tools, packet analyzers, syslog and firewall log analysis.
- Strong time-management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to think critically, analytically, and strategically.
- Experience in a retail environment including both e-commerce and physical store location design and operations is preferred.
- Experience in datacenter switching including as spine and leaf architectures is preferred.
- Experience with RADIUS, TACACS+, and NAC including 802.1X, MAC and certificate authentication.
- 3+ years’ experience in remote access technologies including both concentrator and client access design, management and troubleshooting.
- 3+ years’ experience implementing and supporting public cloud environments such as Azure, Oracle and Google.
- Knowledge of scripting and automation (Python, Terraform, and Ansible for example).
- Education requirement – BA/BS in computer science, engineering or similar relevant field, master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in network design, implementation, administration and operation
- CCNA/CCNP certification or vendor-equivalent (Palo Alto, Juniper, Fortinet, F5, etc.) is preferred.
