Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field OR Associates degree or certification from a technical institute from an accredited institution AND four (4) years of direct work experience in networking and security, support, and troubleshooting. Cisco certifications on networking concepts, protocols, network management software, or on network switching equipment are preferred.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates for positions within the executive branch must provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccination. The prospective employee will need to be fully vaccinated or have at least one shot of a two-shot series before beginning work. Any employee who does not receive and provide proof of the second shot within 30 days will have their probationary employment terminated.
Allegheny County will allow for medical and religious exemptions from the requirements in accordance with state and federal law.
Additionally, it is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
Position Summary:
The Network Analyst’s role is to design, build, and implement network systems across the enterprise. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections and communication links. The Network Analyst also troubleshoots network performance issues, as well as analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions.
Duties:
- Ensures network and internet protocol (IP) connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-end office infrastructure.
- Monitors and analyzes network performance across local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and wireless deployments.
- Plans and implements improvements, modifications, or replacements of network infrastructure components.
- Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Monitors system capacity to determine its effect on performance and recommends enhancements to meet new or changing network demands.
- Develops and implements policies for network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, technical information and documentation.
- Identifies and solves network problems and ensures the performance efficiency of networks.
- Installs and configures all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices, etc.
- Develops and implements policies, procedures, and trainings for network resource administration and disaster recovery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:
- Network management and analysis tools.
- Network systems, protocols, and standards.
- Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting.
- Multi-site switch and route.
- Installation and configuration of switches, routers, and wireless access points.
Ability to:
- Lift and transport heavy objects such as routers, switches, and other equipment.
- Complete occasional inspections of cables in floors and ceilings.
- Work a 40-hour on-site work week and occasionally work off-hours.
- Conduct research regarding networking issues and products.
- Effectively prioritize and express a keen attention to detail.
- Work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Communicate well both orally and in writing.
