Description

A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper is a professional statewide law enforcement officer, who must strive to earn and maintain trust, respect, and the confidence of all citizens, who they shall protect and serve.

Hiring Rate: $27.462 per hour during camp as Officer Candidate; after Camp #69 graduation the Trooper rate of pay will be $30 per hour; or $30.75 per hour if qualification for bilingual ability has been determined by the agency (which is 2.5% higher than the base hourly rate of a new Trooper).

Location: Basic Recruit Training-Grand Island. Relocation occurs upon graduation; requests for a specific area will only be considered if applicant receives and accepts a final offer of employment.

Qualifications / Requirements

Camp #69 is scheduled to begin January 2, 2024. You must be 21 years of age and a US Citizen on or before June 28, 2024, which is when Camp #69 graduates.

Required: documented proof of a high school education degree or GED; must have the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language (TABE test required); and be in good physical condition. Applicants who receive conditional offers of employment must complete a polygraph, psychological, and a comprehensive medical examination. Applicants cannot maintain a continuous association or dealings with persons, groups, or organizations that they know, or should know are persons or groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present, ongoing involvement in felonious or criminal behavior. Honesty and full disclosure of any previous drug use or criminal behavior is imperative in the application process. Any deception on the initial application or any other step of the process will be considered a valid reason for dismissal from the selection process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to: communicate, comprehend, read, and write effectively in English (Test of Adult Basic Education required, we will accept scores from Morrow & Associates or NLETC or other Nebraska law enforcement agencies only, or if previously tested with NSP and passed), perceive color differences; hear verbal and radio communications; interact with individuals of different social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; be self-motivated and work independently with limited supervision.
