Job Description

Job Summary:

The NDT Specialist (Non-Destructive Testing Specialist) provides technical services for advanced NDT inspections as per defined scope (Level II NDT ET, UT, MT and PT inspections). Inspections will be conducted at petrochemical and petroleum refineries, wind farms, pulp and paper plants and other industrial facilities as required. Both Manual and digital data acquisitions systems in performing and interpreting non-destructive tests. Technician will be capable of advanced independent testing and high-level customer interaction. Typical skill sets required are advanced T crack detection and sizing and or Automated UT/Phased Array expertise. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Work closely with client to identify and remove obstacles
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection.
  • Interface daily with the client about work priorities and progress of projects
  • Set up and calibrate nondestructive testing equipment.
  • Travel may be required
  • Actively participate in client programs, planning and strategy sessions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Interpret radiographs, cathode ray tube (CRT) or digital readouts, conductivity meters and visual indicators.
  • May instruct and supervise others. Responsible for technical leadership and mentoring of NDT Staff.
  • Perform specialized inspections.
  • Organize and report test results.
  • Actively participate in client safety initiatives, incident investigations, etc.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Team working
  • NDT Level II Certification (Radiography). UT, MT, PT Certifications are a plus.
  • Exceptional safety and quality awareness.
  • Code shooting capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Diploma in Technical Discipline from Trade School, Vocational, or Military Program AND 2 years of related experience using NDT Techniques in Power Generation, Industrial, or Manufacturing environment OR High School Diploma / GED AND 4 years of related experience using NDT Techniques in Power Generation, Industrial, or Manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret results of inspections.
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License and fluent in English
  • IRRSP or State Card preferred.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Trainee level. Trial position to ensure a good fit for GSI – attitude, skills, ambition
  • Demonstrated work history supporting customers and producing final reports
  • Certification as a Level II in MT, PT and UT and ability to meet company certification standards
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and engineering drawings
  • Basic skills training to ensure knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization
  • Experience with automated and computerized NDT Equipment. Demonstrated work history supporting customers and producing final reports
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • In-depth knowledge and field experience with the NDT discipline in customer site applications
