The mission of the North Dakota Center for Distance Education is to provide virtual education to support North Dakota's K-12 schools. Hiring Salary: $4,780 - $5,600 per month

Summary of Work


Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Online Instructional Coach assumes a mentoring role and works with colleagues to help them incorporate best practices and data to inform and guide instructional decisions, academic feedback, targeted interventions, relationship, and engagement strategies; as well as develop and embed professional development in the daily practices. This work will enable teaching peers to improve and increase their students' academic achievement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare, maintain and analyze data and reports and share with leadership team as requested.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Superintendent and Principals for developing and implementing professional development training and programs that foster growth and learning for staff.
  • Assist teachers in analyzing instructional practices and evidence, identifying changes in practice needed, sharing resources, and planning how and when to try new practices.
  • Review instructional practices of teachers to identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement and develop professional development based on findings.
  • Provide resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support instruction, along with how to integrate.
  • Develop and engage in the implementation and evaluation of professional development for staff.
  • Participate in various curriculum and other position-applicable committees within the organization and with external vendors.
  • Model and coach best practice using data, applications, and pedagogy to inform and guide academic and instructional decisions.
  • Build relationships, skills, and confidence with teachers that will positively impact the educational outcome and experience for learners.
  • Observe, document, and provide feedback through informal observations and meetings with teachers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related discipline.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Strong planning skills, vision, and creative intelligence.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Experience designing and leading professional development.
  • Evaluation and assessment skills, including collecting and using data on student and instructional performance to drive curricular improvement.
  • Ability to think independently, exercise initiative, collaborate on resolution strategies, and effectively implement solutions.
  • Supports CDE’s mission and can model its values.
  • Thorough and applied understanding of state standards and the alignment process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional training or master's degree in teaching, curriculum, or education leadership.
  • Experience teaching virtually and applying best practices in virtual instruction.
