The SAMI Team:
We are the Speech, Audio and Music Intelligence (SAMI) team at TikTok and are based in North America, APAC and Europe. Our mission is to empower content distribution and creation through multimodal audio technologies. We focus on cutting-edge R&D in speech, audio, and music processing. We are looking for top talents to work on speech/audio/music algorithms, integrate them into various ByteDance products and ultimately bring the joy to our global user base!
We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2023. Internships at TikTok aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Turn your ambitions into reality as your inspiration brings infinite opportunities at TikTok.
This Internship Program runs for 12 weeks beginning in August/September 2023. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following summer internship cycles below:
1. August 14, 2023 to November 3, 2023
2. September 5, 2023 to November 24, 2023
We will prioritize candidates who are able to commit to these start dates. Please state your availability clearly in your resume (Start date, End date).

Responsibilities

• Support music production team in cataloging and delivery of assets
• Review music (and audio) quality, according to different criteria and destinations
• Work closely with researchers and engineers to deliver high quality musical products
• Compose / Produce music in a variety of different styles
• Provide sound design for a wide variety of applications (sound effects, idents etc)

Qualifications

• Curious, self-driven and self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative team
• Strong composer, with a demonstrable track record of composing and producing in a variety of styles
• Solid understanding of music theory and its relationship with contemporary music styles
• Strong music theory and musicianship skills
• Currently pursuing a Undergraduate/Graduate/Masters with a music degree or a related discipline
• Strong understanding of current music trends on social media
• Be able to transcribe harmonic structure and melodies by ear and harmonize melodies with complex chords
• Proficient with DAW software and plugins, and willing to learn new platforms and tools
• Strong capability with Microsoft Office Suite or similar cloud-based tools
• Good ear for identifying music and audio quality issues
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
• Illustrate production skills: Comfortable to produce and mix diverse contemporary styles(HipHop, Rop, EDM, Aoustic etc.)
• Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Fall 2023

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience / interest in product design
• Graduating December 2023 onwards with intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
• Interest in multimedia, gaming, AI and tech

Job Information
The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $25- $25.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
