Mth - Sign Shop Laborer

The Maintenance Trades Helper (MTH) performs a variety of duties within various shops. The primary responsibilities of the MTH is to assist one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill, such as keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools; cleaning working area, machine, and equipment; assisting carpenters by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by department employees.
Essential Duties

• Help with making and installation all signage to meet both base regulations as well as federal MUTCD regulations
• Perform roadway painting such as crosswalks, pedestrian markings, stop bars and speed bumps etc.
• Ability to keep tools clean, organized and stored properly after each shift
• Repair or replace old or damaged signs, sign frames and sign poles
• Assist with laying out all of the parking areas using stencils such as parking spaces, handicap parking, ‘no parking’ areas, loading zones, fire lanes, arrows and stop bars etc.
• Keep all work areas clean and orderly
• Assist in the fabrication and installation of signs such as Unit signs, traffic signs, safety signs, etc.
• Cleaning of all areas requiring new paint either by shoveling, sweeping or using backpack blowers.
• Help with parking lot layout and striping
• Ability to safely use many types of tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as tape measures, hobby knives, hammers, saws, drills and wrenches. May use specialty tools and equipment such as plotters, laminators, pneumatic air tools, metal shears, wood and metal band saws.

Requirements

• Physical requirements of work assignments to include lifting of 25 - 50 lbs., performance of moderate to strenuous manual labor and performing work assignments with the use of tools and equipment in cramped and contorted position
• Previous experience with Sign work highly preferred
• Must be able to obtain and maintain access to military installations
• A valid drivers license
• High School diploma or GED.
• All applicants must pass a drug test and background check.
