Job Description
SUMMARY_____________________________________________________________


The MRI Technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all MRI exams provided by the department according to department procedures with the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study properly and safely. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of disease. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to, the following)


  • Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.
  • Troubleshoot MRI system and peripheral equipment to ensure that the equipment is operating properly to avoid downtime or delays that affect patient care.
  • Load and operate power injector for contrast media administration.
  • Assist radiologists in developing new protocols and MR imaging techniques.
  • Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
  • Coordinate scheduling and patient flow.
  • Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to provide high quality images and information for patient diagnosis.
  • Assist with education and training of staff.
  • Maintains quality assurance program for ACR.
  • Competency with PACS and EMR systems.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Provide training to new technologists with regular checks, direction and qualified work examples performed by an experienced team member.
  • Address patient concerns during the procedures and explain the MRI process to the patient in a way that is informative but also reassuring.
  • Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Start I.V.'s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
  • Evaluate MR scans for technical quality.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE_______ ________________________


  • Minimum 1 year experience in MRI (Preferred)
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
