Overview

The Center for Data Modernization Solutions (CDMS) residing in the Technology Practice Area at RTI International has an opening for a Data Curator / Data Manager to support and promote data interoperability, contribute to development of informatics tools and analysis of complex data sets. CDMS works closely with clients to provide fit-for-purpose solutions to enable use of data for the public good. We bridge the research-information technology gap, applying a data ecosystem perspective that enables clients to maximize the value of data. This position primarily supports biomedical and/or public health informatics projects. A fundamental understanding of scientific data, experience with metadata and clinical data standards, as well as data structures that support query and demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
The Data Curator / Data Manager will have access to colleagues with expertise in data analysis, high performance computing and software engineering. Most work is accomplished by interdisciplinary teams, promoting innovation and collaboration.
This position is contingent on the award of an upcoming CDC-funded project and will be based in Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC or can be remote.
Responsibilities
  • Work with colleagues to develop tools and methods to enhance data interoperability which includes processes and tools to support and/or apply standard vocabularies and ontologies.
  • Provide guidance, recommendations, and training on format requirements for data types.
  • Support the design and use of metadata and data catalogues.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and researchers to design data systems to advance scientific discovery.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development efforts.
  • Development and maintenance of ontology and terminology services.
  • Experience harmonizing standard vocabularies across EHR and non-EHR data sources.
  • Contribute to and lead interdisciplinary teams; be a team player.
  • Provide guidance, recommendations, and training on metadata requirements.
  • Work on multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Inform the development of software tools or workflows that utilize and apply data and terminology standards.
  • Adhere to quality processes and standards required by the practice area.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting data reuse and applying standards.
  • BS in Library Science, Information Management, Information Technology or related discipline and 3 years of experience or an MS.
  • Knowledge of Federated/ distributed Data Ecosystems (FAIR Compliant).
  • Understanding of Data Management and Data Governance approaches and tooling.
  • In depth understanding of metadata and data standards.
  • Experience working on programs with complex and variable data sources.
To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not now or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience providing consultative services in biomedicine or public health
  • Ontology or standard vocabulary development
  • Management of data release processes for reuse
