Under moderate supervision, performs variety of patient care activities for patients assigned to Medical/Surgical Units. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, monitors the cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibility.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position, the candidate must have the following:


  • Candidate MUST pass a basic arrhythmia exam or course and have the ability to recognize critical rhythms.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidates MUST HAVE Monitor Tech or Tele Technician experience or have taken the class.
  • One year experience as a State of Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant or National Paramedic Certification preferred.


CONDITIONS: The new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. Successful completion of skills checklist and unit specific competencies is required during the probationary period. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be re-assigned or terminated.


SKILLS & ABILITIES:  Medical terminology course preferred.  Successful completion of Civista Medical Center’s approved Monitor Technician’s Course.  BCLS certified within 3 months of employment on this unit.  The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.  National Certification for Paramedics preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read and interpret physician orders and other written methods of health care team communication is essential. Ability to respond to customer inquiries is required. He/she must demonstrate spoken English in order to communicate with customers.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with simple mathematical concepts and pass mathematics test
