STATE POSITION NUMBER: Temp/Full Time BAND and LEVEL: UB03

SALARY RANGE: Salary based on education and experience

WORK SCHEDULE: START DATE: AUGUST 2023: Monday through Friday, Temporary Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week, some weekends and evenings may be required.

LOCATION: South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Division of Arts and Academics, Office of the Dean, Greenville, South Carolina

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelors in Fine Arts or Masters in Fine Arts strongly preferred with at least 5 years teaching experience in dance at the secondary and/or post-secondary level. Professionally trained modern dance teacher experienced in teaching early 20th century modern dance techniques to advanced and pre-professional level students. Performance background with major Modern Dance company. Extensive knowledge and experience in both staging modern dance repertory and choreographing. Additional teaching skills sought include one or more of the following: Floor work, Partnering, movement improvisation, movement composition and somatic practices such as Yoga or Pilates. Excellent communication and writing skills.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Department Chair, the Modern Dance teacher will advance the mission of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities to identify and teach South Carolina’s artistically talented high school students through programs or pre-professional instruction in a supportive environment of artistic and academic excellence. The ideal candidate shall be experience, flexible, and a creative teacher and performer with the ability to teach advanced level Modern Dance Techniques. Prepare students for performances, auditions, and reputable dance competition such as the Youth America Grand Prix. and Grand Jeté. Prepare grades and progress reports and ongoing administrative responsibilities. Attend dance faculty meetings, participate in recruitment of dance students, and participate in community outreach programs. Advise students and fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Chair of Dance.
