Job Description
Job Title: CNC Programmer
Reporting to: Production Supervisor
Division: MVS- Metals
Location: Sioux City, IA

Summary/Objectives

Responsible for programming and scheduling of laser equipment and technical support.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in closing production orders.
  • Analyze current processes and procedures and suggest improvements in an effort to improve processes and minimize costs
  • Track and plan production schedules, identify and resolve programming issues.
  • Execute the efficient combination of orders in SAP whenever possible and generate nesting program, applying standard practices for NC/CNC machines.
  • Train and assist laser operators as needed.
  • Maintain a consistent high level of organization around the work area and demonstrate an ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Assist other departments and divisions of Owen Industries as needed.
  • Prepare, develop and coordinate production schedule for laser equipment to meet or exceed company objectives of accuracy and on-time delivery.
  • Actively communicate with other departments including sales, shipping and management current schedules and any capacity constraints.
  • Responsible for the beveling for all the Plasma Machines.
  • Coordinate with Plant Manager, all material requirements and requests in a timely manner.

  • Carry out duties in accordance with ISO standards and other company procedures.
  • Achieve required quality standards.
  • Achieve on-time delivery to internal and external customers.
Competencies
  • CAD Experience.
  • Technical degree or trade program coursework preferred.
  • Knowledge of working in a metal shop environment preferred.
  • Active listening Skills.
  • Mechanical reasoning and logical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent math and measuring skills.
  • Must have problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of electronics and machine tools.
  • Time management, organization, and planning skills.
  • Excellent reading comprehension, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have computer programming skills.
  • Must be highly detail oriented.
  • Must have ability to read blueprints.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Environment is not fully climate controlled.
