Mission Staff, Wyldlife (Part-Time)

Portland West Young Life is looking to hire a part-time WyldLife mission staff to lead, grow and develop the middle school ministries in the northern half of our Portland West Area in Beaverton, Ore. Beaverton is one of the most high-tech communities (Intel is the largest employer in Oregon) in the nation and is also the headquarters for Nike Corporation.

Portland West has a long history of Young Life and is looking to add to the team to continue the ministry as the area continues to grow. This is an exciting opportunity as the area puts an intentional focus on growing strong WyldLife throughout our area as a building block into sustained long-term ministry with kids. This is one of two hires that our area will make to strategically invest in staff to develop two WyldLife “Hub Clubs,” one in the north end of the area and one on the south.

This North WyldLife mission staff will directly oversee and develop the WyldLife club at Cedar Park Middle School and Tumwater Middle School with an intentional focus to include and develop other middle schools in the north end of our area.

Responsibilities

Spiritual Development – “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health, and church relationships.

• Consistently living out a life of prayer and listening.
• Actively plugged in with a local church community.
• Personal relationship with Jesus is active and growing.
• Develop a personal growth plan to further foster your relationship with Jesus.
• Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.

Leadership Development – “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

• Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to the other leaders.
• Consistent meetings with volunteer leaders and area leadership.
• Assist in training leaders, team leaders, supportive parents and committee in WyldLife ministry.
• Recruit, train and retain new leaders and volunteers to build a growing thriving team that reflects the community.

Resource Development – “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.

• Observe and learn to network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community including parents, teachers, school administrators, church staff and potential volunteers as directed by the area director.
• Communicate ministry updates and progress to a personal support team.
• Assist in roles for area events for fundraising operations and campership.
• Raise personal support — both prayer support and financial support — as directed and maintain great donor care practices.

Direct Ministry – “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

• Lead a team to implement a camping strategy in summer and school-season.
• Lead a team to plan and conduct club and Campaigners ministry with excellence at new and existing WyldLife clubs on the north end of Beaverton.
• Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
• Oversee and direct the WyldLife ministry at Cedar Park/Tumwater club and the North Beaverton WyldLife Hub.

Ministry Support – “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan, and administrative tasks.

• Manage finances with stewardship.
• Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Proven leadership, vision and team-building skills.
• Position requires raising personal support.
• Young Life/WyldLife ministry experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to build strong, deep and lasting relationships with kids and adults.
• Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ and love for people.
• Strong initiative.
