Job Description
The Quincy Institute (QI) Internship Program provides an opportunity for undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds to engage in career exploration and development.


The mission of QI’s Internship Program is to provide students and recent graduates with a meaningful and practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest. Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, external as well as QI events online or in-person (pandemic permitting).


Interns will be able to work remotely or from the Quincy Institute’s Washington, DC office. Please note that we are only able to hire candidates residing in the California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, New York, Virginia, or Washington at this time.


The pay for this position is $17.00 per hour with an average of 19 hours per week. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample. Application deadline is July 24, 2023.


Responsibilities


  • The candidate will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in the foreign policy work of the Quincy Institute and an interest in working in a dynamic and ambitious environment
  • As needed, the candidate will also provide research support to other Quincy Institute staff
  • The candidate will primarily assist in researching issues related to U.S. foreign policy and military strategy in the Middle East and South Asia, with a particular focus on Iraq, the Gulf states, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan
  • The candidate will closely follow the daily and weekly news cycle, tracking issues of relevance to ongoing research
  • All interns will assist with general administrative work for the Quincy Institute
  • This research will contribute to products that range from original policy research to rapid analysis to op-ed writing
  • The candidate will assist in duties related to congressional outreach, communications, and tracking political developments relevant to ongoing research
Qualifications


  • Familiarity with military restraint and restrainer literature
  • Proficient technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite applications. Basic understanding of data analysis and presentationAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in political science, international relations, economics, or a related field in the social sciences or humanities, or be a recent graduate in aforementioned areas
  • Familiarity with issues related to U.S. foreign policy and ongoing policy debates in the United States
  • Candidates should have background knowledge and interest on issues related to the Greater Middle East area
  • Strong writing and research skills, including basic familiarity with different writing guidelines (i.e. AP style) and citation styles (i.e. Chicago style)
  • Candidates with a strong understanding of economics or statistics will receive heightened consideration
  • Candidates with fluency (not just proficiency) in Turkish, Arabic, Pashto, or Urdu will receive heightened consideration
