Job Description
Overview


The Clinical Director is responsible for the overall direction of hospice clinical services. The Clinical Director establishes, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services which meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and mission.


Responsibilities


  • Assists with evaluation of organization performance via QAPI program, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews. Assures for the quality and safe delivery of hospice services provided through the organization.
  • Perform administrator on-call duties in rotation with other agency managers.
  • Assisting with grievance and complaint resolutions.
  • Provides guidance, counseling, and supervision to Admission RNs, RN Case Managers, and Clinical Coordinators. Assists them in continually improving all aspects of hospice care services provided through agency clinical personnel.
  • Provides help in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated.
  • Assist with clinical call as needed, not on a rotational basis.
  • Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues, and expenses.
  • Assists and monitors compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of agency personnel.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of employees and agency information.
  • Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical agency personnel.
  • Make supervisory visits with clinical staff as appropriate for competency.
  • Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Collaborates with Medical Director / Executive Director in development and promotion of hospice program, which includes public appearances to promote hospice, regular contact with referring physicians, and planning.
  • Promotes hospice referrals in health care community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the orientation program for new clinical personnel. Responsible for orientation of new clinical personnel or designates other staff competent to act as preceptor.
  • Assists in the development of organization goals.
  • Assist in planning and implementing in-service and continuing education programs to meet education and training needs of agency personnel.
  • Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing and hospice care; shares information with appropriate agency personnel.
  • Oversight of annual evaluations on clinical and direct patient care staff, or more frequently as indicated.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel required.
  • Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations required.
  • Three years managerial experience in a hospice or related health care organization preferred.
  • Strong compliance background preferred.
  • Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community required.
  • Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in Alabama required.
  • Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile in good working order, that is insured in accordance with the State and/or organization requirements.
