The Pacific Northwest’s premier steel fabricator, Thompson Metal Fab, Inc., is in immediate need of skilled and experienced Welders and Fitters. Serving the Civil, Hydro, Oil & Gas, and custom fabrication industries. We are an AISC, API, AWS, ASME, and WABO certified facility. With 85 years in the industry, we have a reputation of producing some of the highest quality fabrications on the West Coast.

We have immediate openings for the following positions:
- Day and Swing shift FCAW and GMAW-MC CJP welders
- Day and Swing shift Fitters
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
**All employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical. **
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with project lead(s) and / or leadman to ensure the proper weld procedure, type of material, and weld joint are accurately identified for each welding project
- Read and understand shop drawings, welding procedures, and any other instructions for specific projects
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
- Setup of safety equipment and work platforms at elevation as needed
- Welding and / or fitting various pieces to create small to large scale structures and assemblies
- Make a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease process times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively as part of a team
- Effectively communicate with management to execute tasks common in the steel fabrication industry in the most efficient and accurate manner
- Check work after completion of each operation / task in job, and / or a completed job, to ensure it is complete and accurate per drawing
- Prioritize safety and perform work in a safe and efficient manner
[REQUIRED] BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years experience with FCAW or GMAW welding. Appropriate degree or training certificate can suffice
- High school diploma or equivalent General Education Degree
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and effective safety precautions of the welding trade
- Lead and management experience a plus
- Experience with Carbon-Arc gouging
- Ability to read and understand shop drawings
- 2+ years of experience in welding of carbon steel
- Competency welding CJP welds that are ultrasonically and radiographically tested
- Working knowledge of and competency in the use of precision measuring instruments
- Certifications or experience with AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8
- Ability to read and interpret Weld symbols
- Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and arial work platforms preferred
- Fitter applicants should be familiar with heavy plate and bridge building
- Knowledge of FCAW, GMAW-MC, SAW, SMAW, welding processes
- Ability to rapidly change roles / responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Familiarity with all welding positions – Flat, Vertical, and Overhead. Familiarity with 6G welding strongly preferred
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding trade
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in extreme environments – exposure to heat and cold, similar to being out of doors
- Must successfully pass 3G and 4G weld test using .052” FCAW process to D1.1/1.5 standards on 1” carbon steel test plates
- Ability to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) unassisted
- Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
- Night Shift (3:00pm – 1:30am) Monday – Thursday with voluntary overtime available
- Ability to work at elevated heights
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, and climbing hand over hand
- Day Shift (6:30am – 3:00pm) Monday – Friday with voluntary overtime available
