Job Summary:

The Merchandise Planning Specialist impacts the business by assisting in the execution of quarterly/annual assortment strategies.


As a Merchandise Planning Specialist, you will use data and analytics to plan and bring new product experiences to our Guests while optimizing returns. We want you to focus your strong communication skills on interpreting data and designing reports to drive business performance.


The Merchandise Planning Specialist reports to a Merchandise Planner and assists in analyzing item/category performance to optimize in-season opportunities and minimize liability.


Responsibilities / You Will:

  • Determine product quantities and cost analysis of goods targeted to retail stores or wholesale.
  • Support Merchandise Planner to maintain the department item and grid list. Communicate add/drop assortment changes to help advise future orders.
  • Ensure that products requested/stock recommended/requested by buying and allocation groups meets established seasonal budgetary goals.
  • Review weekly sales performance and communicate recommendations to drive business performance.
  • Identify stock concerns and proactively communicate action plans.
  • Forecast merchandise needs by analyzing sales trends, customer profiles, revenues, and inventory levels and allocates merchandise into stores (physical and/or digital).
  • Proactively handle Planning tasks associated with all Pending Task Workbook issues, RTVs, and price changes.
  • Walk stores regularly.
  • Assist Planner with special projects, as needed.
  • Settle reorder points and ensures that sufficient levels of inventory are maintained in stores or warehouses in coordination with buyers and allocators.
  • Understand and apply all tools to analyze business performance.
  • Find opportunities to improve store performance through assortment changes.
  • Support Merchandise Planner with business insight and analytics to optimize in-season opportunities and minimize liability.
  • Partner with Location Strategy & Allocation to confirm all in-stock items are properly set up and selling in all intended stores.
  • Support leader to achieve all financial objectives.
  • Plan and adjust retail and/or wholesale merchandise flow to satisfy customer demand based on sales forecasts and trends.


Basic Qualifications / You Will Have:

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast pace environment.
  • Ability to problem solve and meet ambitious deadlines.
  • High motivation and willingness to learn
  • 2+ years of merchandise planning experience.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills & time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools, Business Objects, and Oracle Retail
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with peers and partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • High level of attention to detail; proactive with strong follow-through skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent is strongly preferred.
