Job Description
The National Association of Consumer Advocates, a small national nonprofit organization committed to achieving justice for all consumers, is seeking a Membership & Communications Associate in Washington, DC. This position works collaboratively with everyone on staff and reports to the Senior Director of Membership and Communications.


This position is the liaison between our organization and our members. You will be responsible for all aspects of membership, from serving as the first point of contact for membership to ensuring the renewal of current members. You will also be tasked with maintaining records, tracking membership figures, and coordinating with the accounting department regarding the payment of membership fees. You will also work on NACA communications as part of the team developing and implementing communications and marketing campaigns.


To be successful, you should be an outstanding communicator with a talent for building strong relationships between members and the organization and with your team members. You also need to be highly organized, able to solve problems and be self-directed.


Primary Responsibilities


Membership Serves as the primary liaison and point of contact with current and prospective members regarding day-to-day membership inquiries and issues, ensuring excellent customer service.Manages the membership application process, including tracking new applications, managing the vetting process, updating database information, and welcoming new members.Manages the membership records in the database, ensuring data integrity by regularly cleaning and updating data.Assists with the membership recruitment and renewal processes.Serves as the primary online community manager and troubleshoots any issues.Identifies ways to build community and enhance the member experience.


Volunteer Management Assists the senior director and other staff members with the logistical and administrative aspects of committee work.Serves as the primary staff liaison for the ethics committee and the state chair committee. Communications & Marketing Manages the development and distribution of a monthly membership e-newsletter.Assists with the development of marketing and promotional materials.Manages the maintenance and implementation of content (provided by staff and members) for the website, ensuring that the site is up-to-date and visually appealing.Manages our email platform, including maintaining templates, ensuring data integrity with the database, and analyzing email results.Partners with the legislative director to implement the association’s social media strategy by posting content, responding as needed, monitoring and reporting on metrics, and strategizing with staff to develop more and deeper engagement opportunities.Works closely with partner organization on conference and membership promotion. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English, or related fieldAt least one year of experience in a similar positionExcellent written and oral communication skillsDetailed orientedAbility to write compelling and appropriate copy for promotions, the website, and social mediaComfort with social media platforms and strategyComfort with technologyThe ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneouslyMust be a team player and able to work effectively in a small, open, and collaborative environmentOccasional travel may be required


Desired Qualifications Experience in a nonprofit or membership associationExperience editing copyExperience updating websites and managing databasesExperience using Impexium database, Real Magnet or other mass email distribution software, Cvent, Word Press, Higher Logic, or other community management systemsKnowledge of HTML programming and graphic designExperience using and analyzing metrics to drive decision makingExperience developing and implementing a communications calendar/strategy to drive up organizational presence NACA offers a full package of benefits including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and a generous paid time off (PTO) package. We are a hybrid work environment. Staff are expected in the office currently one day a week. Salary range $42,000 to $45,000 depending on experience.
