Job Summary


The Medication Trained Staff (MTS) will be responsible for the administration of prescribed medications and approved treatments to assigned clients. The MTS will be responsible for duties surrounding medication per Children and Youth 3800 Regulations including treatments, and Adult 6400 Regulations, observation and reporting, documentation, and completion of all aspects of the Medication Training Program (MAP) as trained through the (MAP).


Upon successful completion of the Medication Training Program (MAP), the MTS will


  • Receives/provides relevant information (written and oral) regarding clients, milieu status, and programming to/from successive shift staff.
  • Participates as a member of the program’s interdisciplinary treatment team, contributes information regarding client progress in relation to the individual’s general well-being; identifies treatment goals and strategies (including individualized protocols), his or her role and function within the program milieu, special needs, community and family interactions, and other pertinent information. Documents information as directed.
  • May be requested to drive a program vehicle. If driving, must show proof of valid driver’s license and successfully complete Woods Services driver training program.
  • Ensures the client’s safety and well-being; actively supervises clients in accordance with each client’s needs, treatment goals, program policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required staff development orientation and continuing in-service training.
  • Actively participates in and contributes to the therapeutic community through the implementation, coordination, and support of programmatic components.
  • Reviews and ensures progress notes meet compliance criteria, as defined by regulations.
  • Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Must successfully complete all aspects of the Medication Administration training program including the practicum and monitoring portions of the program.
  • Provide and reinforce medication teaching to the clients, as explained by the nurse.
  • Immediately report to the nurse any issues re medication errors, pharmacy errors, unusual signs, and symptoms, etc.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is required.
  • Document the administration of medications, treatments, etc. on all appropriate forms.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Medication Review Team.
  • Administer treatments as ordered by the physician and within the scope of the MAP.
  • Proof of a High School Diploma, GED, or College Degree is required.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients and their families/guardians.
  • Responsible to obtain 40 hours of in-service training annually including fire safety, CPR (certified), blood-borne pathogens, positive approaches, safety techniques, suicide precautions, cultural diversity, and passive restraints as well as the MAP yearly practicum.
  • Serves as a role model to clients with respect to mature appropriate behavior.
  • Upon completion of required training, administers emergency first aid treatment (including CPR) and implements fire safety procedures in accordance with Woods’ policies and procedures.
  • Report to the nurse any client behaviors/actions that are inconsistent with the client’s normal behavior.
  • Implements crisis stabilization procedures as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. In the event of any emergency, communicates pertinent information to the appropriate person. Prepares incident reports as directed.
  • Communicates with family members and/or agency personnel in a positive, effective manner.
  • Serves as the observer of restraints and completes necessary forms.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
