Description
Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is a skilled nursing Facility that cares for the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Veterans. Our mission is to serve Kentucky’s Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care.

We are looking for a self-motivated, energetic Medication Aide who possesses the desire to care for Kentucky’s Veterans.

Expectations include but are not limited to:
  • Takes pulse, blood pressure, respiration, temperatures, and weights and documents on flow charts as required.
  • Assists with rehabilitation and restorative care needs of patients. Participates in meeting and unit based in-service.
  • Assists residents with care needs such as: grooming, toileting, and dining. Transports/escorts to medical appointments and ambulatory surgery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Documents appropriately on all required nursing/medical forms.
  • Performs medical treatments such as: dressing changes, enema, first aid treatment, and application of assistive devices.
  • Prepares, administers, and documents oral medication.
This job requires mandatory COVID 19 vaccination or an approved exemption in accordance with CMS-3415-IFC from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This means if appointed to the position, the applicant must have completed the primary vaccination series for COVID-19, which means the administration of a single-dose vaccine or the administration of all required doses of a multi-dose vaccine upon commencement of employment. The vaccine received must be one of the FDA-approved or FDA-authorized vaccines. Proof of vaccination will be required. If a medical or religious exemption is sought, the candidate must submit paperwork to the employer prior to appointment for review and approval.

This position, in the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center Nursing Services Department, in Jessamine County has an approved Locality Premium of $5.85 in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(1).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): 1. Must possess current registration with the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry as administered by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health Services and Kentucky Board of Nursing. https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/kar/906/001/100.pdf http://www.kbn.ky.gov/ 2. In addition, must possess documentation of having successfully passed the medication aide competency examination as administered by Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). https://nurseaide.kctcs.edu/kma/index.aspx Acceptable documentation is as follows: Training received AFTER December 1990: Letter from a Kentucky Community and Technical College OR from the Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems office indicating the applicant has passed the competency exam for Kentucky medication aide. Training received PRIOR to December 1990: Certificate of completion of Medication Administration Course for unlicensed personnel. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions that requires the following of safety procedures. May occasionally encounter patients/residents with unpredictable behavior.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
