Job Description
Overview:
Serves individuals requesting or needing non-emergency medical transportation by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Provides all assistance reasonably necessary to patients prior to and immediately following vehicle transportation.
  • Operates on a timely basis and according to assigned schedules without exception, while managing all work activities in a manner that creates high dependability.
  • Assists patients as required during medical services received.
  • Provides safe and responsive van transportation for clients when requested and as necessary for medical transportation purposes while complying with all driving and traffic safety standards and laws.
  • Inspects any vehicles used for cleanliness, operability and safety purposes, and makes all appropriate adjustments.
  • Operates radio or similar device to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
  • Interacts with all patients in a way that is pleasant, understanding, and reasonably motivational.
  • Assists patients and clients as necessary while entering and leaving vehicles.
  • To the greatest degree possible, develops knowledge of patients and their medical conditions to assist them to the greatest degree possible.
  • Maintains accurate records, logs, notations and receipts of all activities for later review and follow-up actions.
  • Notifies management concerning need for repairs to vehicles and equipment.
  • Secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during travel.
  • Responds to uncomfortable or hostile situations in ways that minimize risk and/or continuing discomfort or danger.
  • Complies fully with all confidentiality regulations and policies while not disclosing any patient or client information to unauthorized persons.
  • Communicates patient circumstances, concerns and conditions to appropriate licensed and non-licensed staff members.
  • Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
  • Communicates consistently with patients in a pleasant and understanding way.
  • Assists disabled passengers in all ways possible.
  • Maintains focus upon patient and client needs while taking all necessary steps to ensure that those individuals are responded to rapidly based upon their stated issues and the observations of this position holder.
  • Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of surroundings for both work efficiency and personal/patient safety purposes.
Qualifications:
  • Interest in medical subjects, patient services/care, and customer service.
  • Prior medical environment work experience is preferred.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license, violation free for a minimum of five years.
  • Defensive Driving certification preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
