Medical Technologist-I Parasitology - CVM

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a collaborative and mission-driven Medical Technologist for its Parasitology laboratory. This individual will be responsible for performing a variety of classical parasitology techniques that encompass specimen processing and testing, in support of the unit’s diagnostic service.
Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) is a high visibility and high volume veterinary diagnostic laboratory that promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations. Through its comprehensive veterinary diagnostic services, the AHDC detects animal diseases, supports animal and public health, promotes environmental stewardship, and fosters economic growth.
The Parasitology Laboratory of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center is a full-service parasite diagnostic laboratory capable of diagnosing infections in domestic and wild animals. This service is provided in an accurate, timely and cost-efficient manner. Accurate identification of parasites benefits animals, their owners, and veterinarians by helping to improve animal health.
What you will do:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Daily quality assurance and control testing procedures are strictly followed to support compliance with regulatory standards.
- Perform classical and molecular test methods to aid in the diagnosis of parasitic infections in domestic and wild animals under the general guidance of the lab supervisor.
Employees of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center must adhere to the AHDC Quality Assurance system, confidentiality statement, standard operating procedures, and organizational policies. Employees are expected to meet all of the Cornell University Staff Skills for Success, which are essential for individual and organizational success. Employees working in the lab must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
This position is 39 hours per week. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, specific schedules may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.
This is a three-year term position; reappointment will be contingent upon funding and performance.

What you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline, with a minimum experience of up to two years or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended period of time at lab benches, microscope stations, or while using laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Works well both independently and within a team environment.
