Job Description
Job Summary: A licensed Medical Technologist employed by Erlanger Medical Center performs and develops a wide variety of laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods. The associate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to interact with and provide service appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to provide the service needed as described in the department's guidelines and procedures. Required: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related biological science and 12-months approved clinical training in a NACCLS approved program or equivalent. In lieu of Associate?s degree has successfully completed equivalent military training and served as a medical laboratory specialist. Preferred: Experience: Required: General familiarity with all routine lab testing. Ability to work with sophisticated laboratory instrumentation. Ability to work with pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Preferred: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Licensed or eligible as a Medical Technologist with the State of Tennessee. Preferred: None Current incumbents hired prior to December 2016 who have not met the requirements listed above will be grandfathered into the position. Department Position Summary: An Erlanger North Laboratory Medical Technologist is responsible for adherence to the laboratory's policies for the proper collection, preparation and testing of patient samples. An Erlanger North laboratory Medical Technologist must possess interpersonal skills, computer skills, technical skills and organizational skills sufficient to enable him or her to work alone or with co-workers. A working knowledge of procedures, policies, office skills, instrument and equipment maintenance, problem-solving, continuing quality improvement and customer service is a necessity. The employee must be able to interact with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff members in a prompt, courteous and professional manner. An Erlanger North Laboratory Medical Technologist should also be capable of supervising Specimen Processor(s) during their work shift. '190992
