Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Physicist.

In this role, the successful candidate Provides Medical Physics services related to the use of nuclear medicine equipment to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements of the FDA, the New York City and New York State Health Codes and the standards of the American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission. Services are to be provided primarily at NYU Langone Hospital, and at other facilities as assigned. Performs technical measurements and reviews work done by others to ensure that all mandated requirements are addressed. Maintains knowledge and professional credentials in order to satisfy all associated regulatory requirements. Keeps Director of Radiation Safety informed about all substantial issues related to this area of responsibility. Participates in the development of improved techniques for technical measurement and data management including new computer systems and will keep Director informed about this area of responsibility

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching o Education of residents and/or fellows o Education of medical students, summer interns, etc. define and supervise projects o Mentoring of students, participation in journal club, grand rounds, etc. Clinical Support o Oversite of equipment quality control, including acceptance, periodic testing, and data analysis for nuclear medicine instrumentation Work with staff on imaging system specifications Adapt quality control procedures as equipment evolves and regulations change o Dosimetry Thyroid dosimetry Other monoclonal antibody, clinical trials, etc. o Accreditation Gamma Cameras PET Scanners Laboratory Instrumentation o Consultations Participate in establishing purchase specifications for, and selection of, instrumentation to detect and measure radiation Participate in design of clinical routines Clinical cases related to image quality and dose Research & Development o Research project planning, usually dose and/or image quality related o Image processing, statistics, software and hardware in support of research projects o Translation of research to clinical practice o Interaction with clinicians and principal investigators in domains outside of Nuclear Medicine For their understanding of new techniques and their applications In the calculation of radiation dose and appropriate informed consent risk language for human research studies with ionizing radiation Participation in institutional regulatory committees such as the Radiation Safety Committee, the Radioactive Drug Research Committee and various research committees Health Physics o Radiation protection shielding design and surveys, e.g. PET & Nuclear Cardiology Facilities o Investigate personnel radiation exposures o Calibration of radiation detection equipment o Write radiation safety policies related to the administration of radioactive material to patients

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS; NYS License for Nuclear Medical Physics

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $106,229.95 - $177,049.92 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
