Position Summary
This position will provide services of direct benefit to students and their education. The position will be responsible for providing direct support to the Body Donation Program within the Offices of Medical Student Education (OMSE). The Laboratory Technician will work closely with the Director of Laboratories to maintain the facilities, supplies and equipment related to the program. In addition, this position will perform duties similar to those of an embalmer. This position works closely with the course directors for the Anatomy component of the medical school curriculum, ensuring that the evolving needs of the curriculum are accommodated and planned for appropriately. This position is 100% onsite.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of laboratory experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must have excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail. Must possess a high level of discretion and respect. Must have the ability to work with diverse groups of people. This person should have experience with customer service.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Graduation from an accredited mortuary science program with a minimum of an Associate’s degree is preferred. Prefer current North Carolina Funeral Service license. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as an embalmer is preferred. Experience in embalming and anatomy for education/medical purposes is preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
The individual in this position must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push up to 250 pounds with or without accommodation. The nature of this position requires that the individual is frequently exposed to fumes/chemicals and airborne particles within the preparation room and cadaver labs.
