Job Description
Suncoast Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center is currently seeking a Medical Director to help lead and grow our well-established team. At Suncoast, our mission is to provide phenomenal medicine with warmth and compassion towards our clients and respect towards our referring base. The Medical Director, as part of the hospital leadership team, will be responsible for overseeing the medical operations of the hospital, serve as a mentor to staff, and lead the advancement of high-quality patient care and client service. The Medical Director will also work in collaboration with the hospital leadership teams to maintain and build our relationships with the referring community.


The ideal candidate will have leadership/management experience, preferably in a multi-specialty setting. Other areas of leadership experience (academia, industry, not-for profit) will be considered. The successful candidate will also possess strong emotional intelligence; those who are self-aware, have positive attitudes, authenticity, and empathy toward others


Promote and Uphold Exceptional Medical Quality Practices


  • Ensure current practices, SOPs, BPGs are available and support standards of care.
  • Evaluate future growth of services to improve standards of care.
  • Review medical records and provide client/DVM follow-up as needed.
  • Foster an environment of psychological safety.
  • Evaluate patient-care risks and concerns; follow-up on breaches in best practices.
Medical Culture


  • Cultivate learning and training across all areas of the hospital.
  • Ensure house officer training and development is provided for existing programs.
  • Ensure clinician-driven principles are upheld and hold clinicians accountable to the standards that are created/expected.
Clinician Retention and Engagement


  • Provide orientation and select mentors for new clinicians.
  • Discuss areas of clinical development with clinicians.
  • Assess services and identify solutions for improvement (staffing, equipment, etc.)
  • Discuss future goals and growth with clinicians.
  • Host quarterly clinician check-ins along with hospital leadership.
  • Host/cohost periodic clinician +/- all-staff meetings.
Clinician Recruiting


  • Follow-up with candidate.
  • Partner with recruiting and other members of hospital leadership team.
  • Host a favorable site visit.
  • Prepare team for candidate site visits.
Med-Ops Partnership


  • Routinely evaluate clinician productivity and efficiency.
  • Identify areas for OpEx expenditures.
  • Evaluate facilities and equipment needs along with hospital leadership.
  • Develop business acumen.
  • Seek areas of partnership and integration with UVC and our systems.
Personal growth and development


  • Identify and develop successors for medical leadership.
  • Consider future goals and professional/leadership development.
  • Attend routine 1:1s with VP of Specialty Operations.


Requirements


  • Professional and excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, diplomatic attitude
  • Ability to become licensed to practice in the state of Florida
  • At least 5 years of clinical, scientific, or industry experience, ideally in a high-volume environment
  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university
