The incumbent is responsible for providing back office support for physicians and patients in the assigned Department of Dermatology Clinic. The patients are escorted to exam rooms. Vitals are taken with a chief complaint. Surgical trays are prepared as necessary as well as the cleaning of the exam room to prepare for the next case. Various reports such as lab, pathology, and physician’s notes are prepared ahead of time for the physician to see the patient. The incumbent also plays a significant role in the flow and the line of communication required to maintain an adequate, organized rhythm of the clinic on a consistent daily basis. Due to the various demands on floor, the incumbent is expected, at times, to maintain a rapid flow while performing at the quality of care required by the clinic’s needs. Salary Range: $27.24-$35.94/hourly

Knowledge of dermatologic terminology and disease condition sufficient to communicate treatment status with patients and their families, medical faculty and staff, and other health professionals. Ability to keep a running inventory. Knowledge of UCLA forms, patient admissions, etc. Knowledge of surgical dressing applications. Knowledge of lasers. Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. Knowledge of surgical instruments. Knowledge of operating and maintaining standard surgical medical equipment. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and explain medical treatment procedures. Skill in reading medical documents, such as patient charts, biopsy results and routine correspondence from health professionals. Skill in reading English words, simple sentences and numbers on documents so they can properly be compiled and filed. Skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports to explain patient’s progress and charting. Skill in writing grammatically correct routine business correspondence such as brief transmittal memoranda. Knowledge of medical terminology to record pre-admit diagnosis on admissions forms. Ability to push, pull or carry 30 lbs. Demonstrated completion of ten clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests, and/or ten clock hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood, and satisfactory performance by the trainee of at least ten each of intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and ten skin tests, and/or at least ten venipuncture and ten skin procedures. Travel to assigned clinic as directed by manager for coverage.
