Job Description
Job Title: Medical Assistant I

Primary Purpose


The Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the physician and Advance Practice Provider. The Medical Assistant provides instructions to patients as directed by the providers. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for compliance with all OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations and ensuring completion of all duties vital to business operations. The Medical Assistant is a highly visible position that is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, family members, and other visitors to the office.


Education


Minimum: H.S. Diploma/GED


Years Of Experience


Must have one of the following


  • Degree in Health or Biological Sciences inclusive of hands-on clinical patient care activities
  • Completion of EMT Certification Program
  • Completion of an MA Externship
  • One year of experience as an MA or CNA or other allied health experience
  • Completion of SEP MA Internship


Required Skills And Knowledge


  • Must have good organizational skills and work professionally with doctors, hospital administration and management, SEP employees and the public.
  • Must respond and follow through to requests from customers promptly.
  • Ability to learn other computer skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based decision-making culture.
  • Performs duties willingly and with initiative. Shares necessary information so co-workers can do the same.
  • Must utilize resources wisely.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating multi-disciplinary communications strategies, strategic initiatives, and events.
  • Must work carefully and precisely with attention to detail.
  • Cooperates with other departments and work groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently resulting in effective outcomes and on-time performance.


Licenses And Certifications


Preferred: An approved credential, such as the CCMA, CMA, RMA, ARMA or EMT


Clinical Duties


Requirements vary by practice and could include any or all of the following


  • Assisting providers with exams and procedures
  • Administering injections and immunizations
  • Answer and triage patient phone calls and questions
  • Performing EKG and other essential laboratory procedures
  • Collecting patient samples (fingerstick, throat/nose swabs, urine)
  • Obtaining vital signs (manual blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature)
