Reports To Program Director, Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant Programs Education Required
Bachelor degree required; Master degree preferred.
  • Bachelor degree will be waived for initial or adjunct faculty employment with professional credentials and experience.
Classification Faculty Position Term 12 months Basic Statement of Responsibilities
This position is responsible to the Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant program director and assists the director to organize and effectively attain program goals and objectives that are aligned with the College’s philosophy, goals and objectives. Works cooperatively with the faculty in the program areas, other allied health programs, college staff, faculty and administration and professional organizations and communities of interest. This job description is an addendum to the Faculty .
Qualifications
Current Certified Professional Coder Certification (CPC) credential with 5 years recent experience in coding required.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
  • AAPC Approved Coding Instructor preferred. AAPC Approved Instructor is a requirement for this position. If you meet the AAPC requirements but do not have the Approved Instructor status, you will be expected to complete the training to earn the Approved Instructor status within the first 6 month of the position.
  • Bachelor degree required; Master degree preferred. *Bachelor degree will be waived for initial employment with professional credential (CPC) and experience. Bachelor degree must be attained within the first five years of employment.
  • Current Certified Professional Coder Certification (CPC) with five years’ experience required
Organizational Relationships
1. The Assistant Director reports directly and is responsible to the Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant Program Director
2. This position oversees and evaluates the Medical Administrative Assistant program faculty
3. This position interacts closely with American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), the college campus store, and the Medical Administrative Assistant practicum sites, and College student services areas, and students.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Teach 12 credits Fall and Spring semester and 3 credits in the summer for the Medical Administrative program
  • Complete training for online, blended and flex courses to teaching in a variety of instructional methods
  • Program assessment and program review
  • Map and update General Education Learning Outcomes (GELO) to courses in the curriculum and participate in GELO assessment
  • Advising for Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant programs
  • Lead faculty for the Medical Coding and Billing Certificate
  • Liaison with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) to maintain our educational partnership
  • Curriculum updates for Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant programs
  • Acquiring and updating clinical contracts
  • Recruitment for Medical Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant programs
o Set up and proctor Certified Professional Coder exams
o Set up and maintain the class on AAPC website
o Assign membership and exam vouchers
  • Complete TLC within the first two years of employment
  • Participates in the PAC meetings for Medical Administrative Assistant and Medical Assistant programs
  • Participate in Spring and Fall Commencement exercises
  • Collaborate with other Allied Health programs for interdisciplinary functions
  • Assist the director with faculty and staff evaluations
  • Other projects as identified and assigned by the Program Director
  • Participates in the Allied Health Directors meetings
  • Lead the student orientation for Medical Administrative Assistant students entering the practicum
  • Works collaboratively with Student Services and other college staff
  • Review student handbook annually and update any information, college policies and any other documents required for students entering practicum
  • Maintains documentation to meet CAAHEP accreditation through the Medical Assistant Education Review Board (MAERB)
  • Review and award departmental scholarships with Program Director
  • Participate in required professional development activities for the College
  • Serve on College committees
  • Participate in college activities such as open houses, visits to technical centers, and prospective student groups.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain certification and approved teaching status for AAPC
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings
Secondary Responsibilites Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of statistics and basic algebraic function and concepts are necessary
  • Must maintain CPC certification and AAPC Improved Instructor status
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Colleague used software Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Software, etc.
Working Conditions
Most of the job is sedentary. Travel may be required to other campuses, educational sites, off campus meetings, and training workshops and seminars.
